<p>This is a Non-Permanent, Part-Time position</p> <p>The ideal candidate must be able to handle multiple tasks, have strong computer skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills; enjoys working with an aging population and can exercise patience, tact and diplomacy in a highly demanding environment.</p> <p>Incumbent must be available to work a varied work schedule as work schedule changes with demand for social services.</p> <p>Note: This recruitment may close at any time, and will close as soon as the hiring manager determines that enough qualified applications have been received.</p> <p>Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.  Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.Typical duties include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Work with city residents </li><li>Information and referral </li><li>Services provided by phone, in office and in the homes of senior residents </li><li>Provide support to City senior programs </li></ul> <p>The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. The City at its discretion, may add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.</p> <p>Knowledge of: Basic social service needs of older adults and families; support older adults and families' social and physical well-being such as healthcare, household management and material needs; assessment skills and counseling techniques; public and private social service agencies and other community resources available to meet clients' needs.</p> <p>Ability to: Communicate effectively with older adults, volunteers, families, and professionals; work collaboratively with staff in a team environment; maintain effective relationships with clients</p> <p>Possess:</p> <ul> <li>Strong computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills </li><li>Enjoy working with an aging population and volunteers </li><li>Patience, tact and diplomacy in a highly demanding environment </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent certificate required. College coursework in social welfare, social or human services, sociology, gerontology, or other behavioral sciences is preferred. </li><li>Three (3) years of experience working with older adults.
