<p>Hurley Middle School Small-Group Special Education Program Teacher</p> <p>TYPE OF POSITION: Special Education Teacher Full-time (1.0); 2025-2026 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education, as set forth in the agreement between the Seekonk School Department and the Seekonk Educators Association.</p> <p>LOCATION: Hurley Middle School, 650 Newman Avenue, Seekonk, MA 02771</p> <p>AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Student Services</p> <p>The Special Education Teacher is a highly qualified teacher who is responsible for the instruction, evaluation, coordination and regulatory compliance for special education students in a small-group program classroom for students with learning disabilities, a program for students in grades 6-8 to prepare instruction in a developmentally-appropriate curriculum and plan community experiences and learning opportunities.</p> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:</p> <ul> <li>Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities or Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as well as evidence of meeting all Massachusetts Department of Education standards for Highly Qualified Teacher </li><li>Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage a meaningful, relevant, and engaging learning experience for students with cognitive, social, and emotional challenges </li><li>Ability to develop units of instruction that are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core </li><li>Demonstrated understanding of community-based learning and adult independent living skills </li><li>Valid Driver's License with a safe driving record </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Special Education or current matriculation in a Special Education Master's Degree Program </li><li>Experience in elementary or secondary education classroom instruction </li><li>Experience with the use of data to inform and guide educational/therapeutic decisions and practices </li><li>Understanding of curriculum and transition planning as a continuing consideration and theme for all students </li></ul> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Provide leadership and manage the small-group classroom team, including supervision of paraprofessional(s). </li><li>Provide differentiated instruction in math, English, science, and social studies. </li><li>Ability to work as a productive member of the instructional team to maximize outcomes for students in small-group learning program acquiring academic and community living skills. Developing long-term and weekly plans that include instructional, pre-vocational, and recreational experiences for all students to achieve their individual goals. </li><li>Conduct standardized educational evaluations (WIAT-4) and write reports based on the results as well as targeted vocational and on-going transition assessments. </li><li>Write reports, run IEP meetings, develop IEPs, maintain data collection employing research-based best practice strategies to demonstrate student progress and adjust student goals. Attend IEP meetings for prospective students. </li><li>Work with expert consultants to develop effective support systems for students. </li><li>Develop positive relationships with students, families, and community partners. </li><li>Participation in a mentor program and required trainings that are provided by the district. </li><li>Ability to recognize the need for and to provide assistance to students in an appropriately active classroom and community setting. </li><li>Assisting students with hygiene and self-care needs. </li><li>Other student-related assigned responsibilities as needed. </li><li>Other duties, as assigned, according to the SEA contract. </li></ul> <p>EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER.
