The library, located on the third floor of the north wing of the State Capitol, serves as a repository for government, legislative, and historical records. There is space for patrons to conduct research, read, make copies, or utilize public computers.</p> <p>The State Library curates digital resources, including databases tailored for state agencies, and historical and research databases accessible to all Kansans. The digital offerings feature eBooks, audiobooks and a variety of online tools to enhance access to information statewide. The State Library plays a crucial role in strengthening public libraries through grant programs and the coordination of statewide resource-sharing initiatives. Key duties include managing user accounts, maintaining and troubleshooting the ILL system, catalog maintenance, and supporting library staff with catalog and technical issues. The position requires effective communication with the system's service provider and a variety of libraries utilizing the system. The role includes training and outreach to encourage participation in resource sharing. Additional responsibilities include representing the State Library in consortium and courier service meetings, leading statewide advisory groups, and data reporting and analysis. The position contributes to agency-wide support.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Library Science </li><li>Three years of experience in library work, the equivalent in relevant education, or a combination of each. </li></ul> <p>Special Skills, Abilities, Certifications</p> <ul> <li>Solid understanding of bibliographic cataloging methods, particularly machine-readable cataloging (MARC) standards and practice </li><li>Familiarity with interlibrary communications standards such as z39.50 information retrieval standard, NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol (NCIP), and others commonly in use </li><li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate and engage with users of varying backgrounds and educational levels, and to teach and train effectively. </li><li>Ability to solve problems and apply critical thinking skills needed to analyze issues and questions. </li><li>Ability to exercise independent judgment within a limited sphere. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships </li><li>Development, preparation, and presentation of training (traditional and virtual). Development of content for training materials, guides, and resources </li></ul> <p>Post Offer Requirement:</p> <p>Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas.
