With the highest level of professionalism and integrity the Kentucky State Police works to prevent, reduce, and deter crime and the fear of crime; enhance highway safety through education and enforcement; protect and safeguard individual rights; and provide leadership, training, technical, and operational support to the criminal justice community.</p> <p>The Public Safety Telecommunicator is a highly skilled team member, providing a vital link between the state Troopers and the information they need to be effective and efficient in their daily operations. Often called the "nerve center" of police operations they are the initial first responders, taking the call and dispatching emergency personnel including state and local police, fire and ambulatory services. Due to the nature of 24- hour operations the applicant must be willing to work a flexible shift.</p> <p>Must be currently certified as a Telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) and be currently certified as a LINK/NCIC operator. Shall not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certifications(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Answer radio and telephone calls (including 911 in designated areas) </li><li>Gather and relay pertinent information from each communication, dispatching calls to police and other emergency management personnel </li><li>Provide pre-arrival instructions during medical emergencies. </li><li>Operate the Computer Aided Dispatching system (CAD) </li><li>Familiarity with Post region </li><li>Utilize law enforcement systems nationwide to assist troopers and detectives with investigations ranging from traffic enforcement to major crime. </li><li>Train entry level telecommunicators on radio room policies and procedures. </li><li>Ensure stolen and lost property, missing and wanted persons, and domestic violence records are accurate in the National Crime Information Center system. </li><li>Perform routine computer backup and file maintenance for the radio room. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong work ethic </li><li>Multi-tasking </li><li>Typing </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication </li><li>Map reading </li><li>Customer service </li><li>Active listening </li><li>Perform under pressure </li><li>Solid judgement </li><li>Computer literacy </li><li>Ability to retain large volumes of information; recall and repeat specifics </li></ul> <p>If you are interested in a challenging yet rewarding career where you can make a positive difference in your local community we would love to review your application for Kentucky State Police Telecommunicator.</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>EDUCATION: High school graduate.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of experience in the transmission, receiving and relaying of electronic information for law enforcement, emergency medical, fire, emergency management, military communications, or traffic operations.</p> <p>Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: College will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.</p> <p>Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be currently certified as a telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC). Must provide documentation of successful certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher within sixty days of employment in this job classification. Must provide documentation of successful certification as a LINK/NCIC operator within thirty days of employment in this job classification. Operator shall not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540. Must maintain any required licensure (s), certification (s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
