<p>Under general supervision, this position leads patrons in group fitness classes, events and activities and/or private/semi- private fitness programs within specific niche populations (ex: Pilates Reformer, chronic conditions, pre/post-natal, sports performance, arthritis patients, etc.). This position may assist with recruitment and mentoring for new staff, providing feedback and evaluation on program and fitness training protocols and demonstrating experienced coaching perspectives through shadow shifts</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and the Town may change these duties at any time.</p> <ul> <li>Works with niche populations and within fitness curriculum and programs identified by the Fitness and Wellness Division leadership as "specialty". </li><li>Teaches a minimum average of two (2) classes weekly for specialized, niche demographics, or trains clients of a specialized demographic population during private/semi-private sessions a minimum average of eight (8) to eleven (11) hours weekly. </li><li>Stays abreast of and demonstrates ongoing competence and proficiency in training protocols for specified training formats and niche populations (ex: prehab/rehab patients, chronic conditions, sports performance specific improvement, Pilates Reformer, etc.). </li><li>Oversees and manages a safe environment for group fitness/private coaching participants; executes proper techniques of various fitness skills. </li><li>Provides a fun and enjoyable atmosphere; conducts self in a professional manner. </li><li>Supports and ensures adherence to Departmental philosophies, policies, procedures and safety guidelines. </li><li>Educates and monitors Ratings of Perceived Exertion (RPE) of class participants throughout the duration of the class or session. </li><li>Schedules client training sessions, including communicating with clients if a session must be canceled or rescheduled. </li><li>Maintains accurate training records and reports including, but not limited to, personal training activity log, class attendance. </li><li>Attends trainings and meetings established by the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator; identifies additional opportunities for continuing education and maintains required certifications and ongoing education credits. </li><li>Answers questions and makes referrals to class participants in the areas of personal training, specialty classes, injuries or additional education. </li><li>Assists with special events and participates in the Recreation Center and/or Fieldhouse annual Maintenance week. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.</p> <p>Requires a National Accredited Certification specialized in niche, coaching formats (general fitness certifications i.e., Les Mills, UpBeat Barre, etc. do not count toward this requirement) or one (1) specialized training certification towards Fitness/Health programming for niche populations (ex: Chronic Conditions/Cancer Exercise Specialist, Certified Special Populations Trainer, etc.</p> <p>Two (2) years' experience coaching specified programs or working with niche populations i.e., Aqua Arthritis, Pilates Reformer, Stretch/Massage, Pre/Post-Natal Training, Chronic Conditions, Sport Performance, etc. is preferred.</p> <p>Employment Standards</p> <p>The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies. </li><li>Knowledge of municipal recreation principles and practices. </li><li>Knowledge of fitness concepts, training approaches and training formats for more in-depth, specific coaching opportunities. </li><li>Knowledge of current fitness trends and research. </li><li>Knowledge of recreation center or fitness center equipment and facilities. </li><li>Skill in providing adaptations for clientele who participate within a niche program or training that may require alternate coaching methods. </li><li>Skill in the training and supervision of patrons in a private coaching or group class setting. </li><li>Skill in verbal and written communication. </li><li>Skill in the use of computers and various software programs. </li><li>Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public in answering questions and handling difficult situations. </li><li>Ability to handle incidents and confrontations in a recreation facility. </li><li>Ability to provide a positive customer service attitude towards all patrons. </li><li>Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as studio microphones or fitness studio equipment. </li></ul> <p>Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>The working conditions described below are representative of those an employee generally encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with a disability to perform the essential duties.</p> <p>Tools & Equipment</p> <p>Requires frequent use of fitness equipment including strength, conditioning, weight, toning, and cardiovascular machines and equipment. May occasionally use fitness devices such as a body composition scanner, resting metabolic rate machine and various fitness software and general office equipment.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. The employee is frequently required to carry, pull, push, or lift up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally carry, pull push or lift more than one hundred (100) pounds with assistance. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision.</p> <p>Environment</p> <p>Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but the employee may be exposed to extreme cold/heat and wetness/humidity.
