<p>The City of Fond du Lac is accepting applications for the position of Assistant City Attorney within the City Attorney/Human Resources Department. This full-time position reports to the City Attorney and serves as the primary backup for the City Attorney. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of legal duties, including labor relations, municipal court prosecution, policy development, and providing legal counsel to various city departments.</p> <p>Essential duties and responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Handle municipal court prosecutions and other legal proceedings. </li><li>Provide legal opinions and advice to the City Council, City Manager, and other city departments. </li><li>Draft, negotiate, and review contracts, ordinances, and other legal documents. </li><li>Represent the City in administrative agencies and courts. </li><li>Assist in formulating and implementing policies related to labor and employment matters. </li><li>Supervise a legal/HR assistant in cooperation with Human Resources Manager. </li><li>Manage labor relations </li><li>Collaborate in workforce planning. </li><li>Oversee employee safety, welfare, and health with Benefits Coordinator. </li></ul> <p>Requirements include:</p> <ul> <li>Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school. </li><li>Membership in good standing with the State Bar of Wisconsin. </li><li>Three to five years of experience in municipal law or labor/human resources/personnel legal matters. </li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Workday is a plus. </li></ul> <p>Preferred experience:</p> <ul> <li>Public labor relations and municipal prosecution experience. </li></ul> <p>Physical requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to operate standard office equipment and perform light physical tasks as needed. </li></ul> <p>Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefit package including health, life, dental, and vision insurance; long-term disability; 457 and Roth retirement plans; and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System-one of the best-funded public employee retirement systems in the country.</p> <p>Relocation and Educational Assistance is also available.</p> <p>Paid time off: We offer a generous paid time off package including 9 standard holidays, 5 floating holidays, sick leave (7.75 hours/month), and a vacation schedule based on previous career and field experience.</p> <p>Salary range: We offer a competitive compensation package $93,962 - $109,935 /annually based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.</p>
