The pom coach will work in conjunction with the Athletics Marketing & Fan Engagement department and report directly to the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing & Fan Engagement.</p> <p>This position will supervise, train and instruct the pom program to include proper training and performances of the team at all practices and required athletic events. Responsible development and utilization of the pom budget; recruiting talented pom program members, managing team appearance requests both on-campus and within the community.</p> <ul> <li>Develop a pom program to include choreography and cheers. </li><li>Plan and coordinate all tryouts for the team: including recruitment, advertising, physical clearance, and scheduling of space. </li><li>Schedule and attend tryouts and practices for the team - ensure that space is secured through the Athletics scheduling coordinator. </li><li>Maintain a calendar of practices and events including but not limited to the team's presence and support at all Football, Men's and Women's Basketball home games, various campus events as needed and support all applicable postseason tournaments. </li><li>Maintain and update rosters and emergency contact information of all team members. </li><li>Maintain knowledge of, and uphold UDA, NDCA, NCAA, Patriot League Spirit Program rules and regulations such as safety, certification, etc. </li><li>Continually make the best efforts to engage the crowd and foster a fan-friendly, energetic atmosphere at home events. </li><li>Effectively communicate with team and Athletics staff, including but not limited to confirming routines and submitting music selections to a member of Athletics at least 48 hours before game time. </li><li>Manage the team budget, and responsible for team fundraising activities. </li><li>Must be able to lift more than 50 pound objects, bending, and standing. </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Professional Experience/ Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Candidates should possess a strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach, and recruit academically and athletically talented pom team members. </li><li>Previous experience as a pom (dance) coach required. </li><li>First aid and CPR certified. </li><li>Commitment to UDA/NDCA safety guidelines. </li><li>Understanding of NCAA Sports, ability to adapt to changing circumstances. </li><li>Must utilize ethics in coaching techniques and in injury prevention. </li><li>Possess knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies & techniques of the sport. </li><li>Assist/Manage social media accounts. </li><li>Be a positive role model for team members & monitor discipline procedures </li><li>Ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population. </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and administration. </li><li>Available in late afternoon and evenings, including weekends, for practices and games throughout the academic year. Must be flexible with availability. </li><li>Ability to adhere to University and Athletic policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree </li><li>Experience as a college-level pom/dance preferred. </li><li>Experience as a high school or college pom/dance coach preferred. </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <p>High school diploma or equivalent</p> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Must be legally authorized to work for Colgate University in the United States without requiring sponsorship for an employment visa (e.g., H1B)</p> <p>Other Information</p> <p>Colgate University is committed to the principle of institutional control in administering its athletics program in a manner consistent with the NCAA, ECAC, NCR, USA Rugby and Patriot League rules. Each individual involved in the athletics division is obligated to maintain competency and knowledge of the rules, to act within his or her realm of responsibility in full compliance with the governing legislation, and to report any violation of NCAA, ECAC or Patriot League rules of which he or she is aware. Should a situation warrant further investigation, you have an affirmative obligation to cooperate full in the infractions process, including the investigation and adjudication of a case. The failure to do so can be grounds for your termination with cause .</p>
