<p>The Director, Payroll Operations provides leadership and management for the administration, accuracy, and timeliness of Lake-Sumter State College payroll processing. This position coordinates and provides leadership for the College payroll including, but not limited to, taxes, garnishments, reconciliations, controls, cycle balancing, check distribution, benefit payments, and time and attendance. The Director, Payroll Services is responsible for directing the daily activities of the payroll staff related to the processing, auditing, analyzing, and reporting of college payroll information. This role also acts as a backup to the Payroll Manager during absences to maintain seamless payroll operations. </p> <p>Responsible for demonstrating LSSC's values of learning, people, student success, forward-thinking, commitment to excellence, accessibility, diversity, partnerships, and sound management practices. Responsible for promoting and sustaining a collegial, respectful, and high-performing work environment for all employees.</p> <ul> <li>Lead and oversee payroll functions, ensuring compliance with college policies, state, and federal laws, including managing staff and performance. </li><li>Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures to ensure efficient processing and compliance with state statutes and tax laws. </li><li>Prepare and submit various reports to federal, state, and local agencies, and assist in processing faculty compensation and payroll reports. </li><li>Reconcile payroll accounts, file tax returns, and coordinate health premiums, benefits, and retirement plan contributions. </li><li>Research best practices to streamline payroll processes and ensure compliance with wage, hour, and tax laws. </li><li>Act as a liaison between Payroll, HR, and IT departments, ensuring system functionality, testing upgrades, and resolving account issues. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li><li>Knowledge of computerized payroll systems, tax codes, and reporting requirements. </li><li>Knowledge of Banner or other ERP experience preferred. </li><li>Excellent computer skills; demonstrated knowledge of Excel and Word. </li><li>Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State regulations about payroll taxes, annuities, and insurance practices. </li><li>Detail-oriented with strong time management skills. </li><li>Knowledge of tax-sheltered annuities, Section 125 benefits, etc. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to use human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the public, college employees, students, and organizations. </li><li>Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business, or a related field from an accredited institution required. </li><li>Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience processing an automated payroll in higher education, government, non-profit, or other fast-paced high-volume work experience preferred. </li><li>Current certification as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred </li></ul>
