<p>Job Description:</p> <p>CANTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>Canton, Connecticut</p> <p>Human Resource Generalist - Benefits Focus</p> <p>Location: Canton, Connecticut - Central Office</p> <p>Reports To: Business Manager</p> <p>FLSA Status: Exempt</p> <p>Position Type: Full-Time, 37.50 hours/week - 12 month position</p> <p>POSITION OVERVIEW</p> <p>The Human Resource Generalist plays a critical role in administering and managing the employee benefits programs within the Canton Public School district. This individual ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, provides excellent customer service to staff, and supports the district's strategic Human Resources initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of employee benefits, state and federal laws, experience with unions, a commitment to confidentiality, and a collaborative approach.</p> <p>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Benefits Administration:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Serve as the primary point of contact for all employee benefits-related inquiries, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans and employee leave.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate annual benefit open enrollment processes, including communication, system updates, and assisting employees with options.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain accurate benefit records and ensure timely enrollments, changes, and terminations within benefit systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with third-party vendors to resolve claims and eligibility issues.</p> </li><li> <p>Reconcile monthly insurance invoices and coordinate payment processing.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist employees with understanding benefit options and resolving coverage issues.</p> </li></ul> <p>Compliance & Reporting:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ACA, ADA).</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare and submit required reports and filings such as 1095-C forms, EEO-1, and workers' compensation documentation.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate updates to benefit plan documents and summaries with third party administrator.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor changes in legislation affecting employee benefits and communicate necessary updates.</p> </li></ul> <p>HR Generalist Support:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Responsible for the onboarding and offboarding employees.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsible for Human Resource functions such as employee relations, leaves of absence, and records management.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in developing and implementing HR policies, procedures, and district-wide initiatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Partner with payroll to ensure accurate benefit deductions and leave balances.</p> </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum of 4 years of experience in human resources, with a focus on employee benefits administration.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient in Microsoft Office, HRIS systems and Google docs (e.g., School ERP, Munis, Frontline, or similar platforms).</p> </li><li> <p>Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>High attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of Connecticut state regulations and experience in school district operations or public sector environment. </li><li>Familiarity with unionized environments and collective bargaining agreements. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>Office environment within a school district administration building.</p> </li><li> <p>May require occasional travel to school sites or off-site meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Standard work schedule with occasional extended hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, union negotiations)</p> </li></ul> <p>COMPENSATION</p> <p>The salary range for this position is $68,000 to $74,000 and comes with a comprehensive benefit package.</p> <p>APPLICATION PROCESS</p> <p>Apply online at:</p> <p>www.cantonschools.org</p> <p>Please fill out an Application for Employment, inclusive of a cover letter, resume and references.</p> <p>The application deadline is Friday, June 13, 2025.</p> <p>Canton Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer.</p> <p>Date posted: 5/27/25</p> <p>Date closed: 6/13/25</p>
