<p>DEFINITION</p> <p>Under general supervision by site administration, works independently providing student supervision before, during or after school hours which could include breakfast, lunch, recess and passing periods at the Elementary, Junior High, and High Schools of the District.</p> <p>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS</p> <p>Positions in this class are a part of the Classified Service as outlined in Assembly Bill 670 effective January 1, 2018. Positions are characterized by their responsibility to monitor school grounds and maintain order on a part-time basis.</p> <p>OCCUPATIONAL GROUP</p> <p>Classified</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES</p> <p>Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Monitors and directs student behavior on school grounds. (E)</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates/and communicates with school administration on enforcement of specific rules and regulations and reports any behavior problems, accidents or exceptional incidents to the designated authority. (E)</p> </li><li> <p>Encourages and promotes courtesy and adherence to common health & safety standards among students. (E)</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with the monitoring of the serving line during meal session(s).</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains the cleanliness of the meal tables. (E)</p> </li><li> <p>Traverses school grounds consistently to ensure safety of all students. (E)</p> </li><li> <p>Reports unauthorized activities and unauthorized persons on school grounds. (E)</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in school-related trainings, such as safety, positive behavioral intervention systems, etc. (E)</p> </li><li> <p>Provides vacation and temporary relief as required and performs related duties as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ol> <p>(E) = Essential Functions</p> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Common safety & health practices; and </li><li>Courtesy standards. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Follow directions </li><li>Learn school rules and regulations and apply to everyday situations on the school campus, in a fair and firm manner, encouraging acceptable student behavior; </li><li>Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward students, staff and community members; </li><li>Communicate clearly in oral form to all stakeholders; </li><li>Maintain student confidentiality; </li><li>Use sound judgement; </li><li>Maintain boundaries with students, staff and community members; and </li><li>Establish effective working relationships with school staff and students. </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE</p> <p>None</p> <p>EDUCATION</p> <p>Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to successfully perform the tasks as outlined above.</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <ul> <li>Indoor/outdoor environment; </li><li>Regular exposure to dust, odors, dirt, pollen; </li><li>Contact with cleaning agents and/or chemicals; and </li><li>Temperature extremes. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Visual ability to monitor student behavior during the school day; </li><li>Hearing and speaking to exchange information related to daily activities; </li><li>Bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching or stooping; </li><li>Mobility; and </li><li>Walking, standing, climbing stairs for extended periods of time. </li></ul> <p>HAZARDS</p> <ul> <li>Adverse weather conditions including extreme temperatures (below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees), high winds and occasional rain; </li><li>Working in a noisy environment; and </li><li>May be exposed to contact with uncooperative or abusive individuals. </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Current first aid certification and training in playground safety.</p> <p>Board Approved: 10/10/78</p> <p>Revised: 12/14/17</p> <p>Requirements / Qualifications</p>
