<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION TITLE: Comptroller</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Administration and Finance</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Vice President, Administration / CFO</p> <p>POSITION STATUS: Full-time, non-unit professional with benefits.</p> <p>PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, MA</p> <p>POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Fiscal Services and Student Accounts Office</p> <p>SALARY: $141,831.00 - $149,011.19</p> <p>STATEMENT OF DUTIES:</p> <p>The Comptroller serves as a key financial leader, providing strategic expertise on the accounting implications of business decisions and their impact on the College's current and long-term financial health. This role requires a deep understanding of how financial decisions influence financial statements and overall institutional stability, with a focus on proactive planning and analysis. The Comptroller prepares and communicates comprehensive reports, including scenario planning to senior leadership, offering informed recommendations and outlining potential outcomes.</p> <p>This position is responsible for interpreting and applying accounting policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The Comptroller collaborates with managers across core financial functions, including general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, grants, and related operations. As the primary audit liaison, the Comptroller coordinates all internal and external audit activities and leads the preparation of annual and interim financial statements in partnership with the system office and external auditors.</p> <p>In addition, the Comptroller oversees the integration of the college's financial system (Banner) with daily accounting functions and conducts in-depth financial analysis using reporting tools such as queries, spreadsheets, databases, and dashboards to support forecasting, trend analysis, and key financial indicators.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community. </li><li>Hire, supervise, develop, and lead department staff. Conduct regular performance evaluations to ensure continuous improvement and identify potential opportunities for growth. Work closely with Human Resources to develop staff capabilities and expectations. </li><li>Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that supports the professional growth of staff while fostering a commitment to service excellence. </li><li>Support the college's commitment to customer service by fostering strong collaborative relationships across departments, sharing relevant information openly, and offering assistance to colleagues as needed. </li><li>Responsible for effective fiscal operations and reporting, financial analysis and planning, and financial model development and management. </li><li>Serves as the principal financial liaison with external agencies, including the State Comptroller, State Auditor, and the Board of Higher Education. </li><li>Responsible for the analysis and translation of the impact of business decisions on the financial statements. </li><li>Develop strategies to meet campus goals and objectives in conjunction with college priorities. </li><li>Contribute to the development of campus-wide strategic goals and objectives. </li><li>Prepare and analyze comprehensive financial reports, including audited federal and state financial statements, monthly variance reports, cash flow analyses, disbursement reviews, and other ad hoc financial reports as required. </li><li>Service as a team-oriented leader for effective resources management, project supervision, and financial analysis with a focus on strategic planning, team building, and performance measurement. </li><li>Provide oversight and strategic direction for key financial operations, including General Accounting, Grant Accounting, Budgeting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Student Financial Services. </li><li>Responsible for establishing and evaluating all accounting procedures for the campus, which includes editing and refining policy guidelines to improve accessibility and efficiency. </li><li>Interpret and apply generally accepted accounting practices to campus operations. </li><li>Implement and evaluate the internal control environment of the campus in accordance with federal, state, and college policies to ensure the timely and accurate processing and reporting of financial data. </li><li>Principal audit liaison for all internal and external audit activity on campus. Coordinates and monitors all financial audits, including the preparation of campus annual and interim financial statements. Assists the Vice President for Administration / CFO with developing responses to all audit findings and corrective action plans. </li><li>Responsible for maintaining the official financial records of Bristol Community College. </li><li>Use Bristol's digital communication tools, to include but not limited to; Bristol email, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other Bristol social media tools, to advance the college's social media outreach and brand to internal and external constituents. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting (or 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree). </li><li>A minimum of six (6) years of leadership within a higher education environment. </li><li>Minimum of four (4) or more years of accounting or finance experience with increasingly responsible management duties.* </li><li>Demonstrated experience in financial and strategic planning within the higher education field (or equivalent field). </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and experience with computerized financial systems, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles, and financial reporting. </li><li>Demonstrated progressive experience in leadership/management level positions throughout career and a proven ability to motivate and lead staff. </li><li>Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, with proven ability to interpret and clearly explain a wide range of regulations, policies, and procedures. </li><li>Ability to clearly and accurately articulate and GASB guidelines. </li><li>Demonstrate strong financial analysis skills with the ability to connect detailed data to broader strategic goals and institutional priorities. </li><li>Exhibit exceptional strategic planning abilities and bring creativity to developing long-term, forward-thinking solutions. </li><li>Able to evaluate systems and processes to enhance operational efficiency and customer service, while ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations. </li><li>The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. </li><li>An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree, MBA, or CPA credential in accounting, finance, or a related field. </li><li>Experience in financial operations within a higher education environment. </li><li>Proven ability to build and sustain effective working relationships across all levels of the college community, including administration, faculty, and staff. </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and a strong focus on delivering excellent customer service. </li><li>Deep understanding of and experience with practices that support access, equity, and student success. </li><li>Demonstrated experience using a variety of social media platforms to enhance an organization's digital presence and brand visibility. </li><li>Multilingual communication skills are preferred; proficiency in a language other than English is valued. </li><li>Access to reliable transportation for travel to meetings, trainings, and various campus or community locations. </li><li>Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The employee must meet the physical demands and work environment of the position.
