<p>Summary</p> <p>The GIS Field Data Technician / Signs Technician supports field data collection, mapping, and spatial analysis efforts for a variety of projects. This role combines outdoor fieldwork with office-based data processing, ensuring accurate, high-quality geospatial information for engineering, environmental, utility, and planning teams. The technician also designs, fabricates, and inspects traffic control signs and related assets to ensure safe and efficient travel throughout the community. This position combines hands-on fieldwork, equipment operation, and technical documentation while supporting the city's transportation safety standards and regulatory compliance.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Collect geospatial data using GPS/GNSS equipment, mobile data collection apps, drones (if certified), and other field instruments.</p> <p>Verify and update existing GIS datasets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.</p> <p>Conduct field inspections of assets such as utilities, infrastructure, environmental features, and land boundaries.</p> <p>Interpret maps, construction plans, and aerial imagery to guide field activities.</p> <p>Document field observations through notes, photos, and standardized forms.</p> <p>Upload, clean, and process field data into GIS databases such as ArcGIS or QGIS.</p> <p>Collaborate with GIS analysts and project managers to support mapping and reporting needs.</p> <p>Maintain field equipment to ensure proper calibration and functionality.</p> <p>Follow safety protocols and regulatory requirements during field operations.</p> <p>Perform sign fabrication including cutting, routing, vinyl application, and assembly using sign-making software and tools.</p> <p>Conduct inspections of signs and markings to identify damage, fading, vandalism, or visibility issues.</p> <p>Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and asset conditions.</p> <p>Follow safety protocols including traffic control procedures, PPE requirements, and equipment operation guidelines.</p> <p>Collaborate with Public Works divisions on construction projects, special events, and roadway improvements.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Basic proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or QGIS.</p> <p>Ability to read and interpret maps, plans, and technical documents.</p> <p>Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.</p> <p>Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.</p> <p>Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites.</p> <p>Basic computer skills for documentation and sign-making software.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Background in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.</p> <p>Experience with asset management systems, utility mapping, or environmental fieldwork.</p> <p>Familiarity with data management, geodatabases, and spatial analysis workflows.</p> <p>FAA Part 107 drone certification if applicable.</p> <p>Experience with surveying equipment such as total stations or laser rangefinders.</p> <p>Fabrication experience using plotters, shears, and laminators.</p> <p>Core Competencies</p> <p>Technical aptitude with geospatial tools.</p> <p>Problem-solving and critical thinking.</p> <p>Strong communication and documentation skills.</p> <p>Ability to work independently and as part of a team.</p> <p>Time management and task prioritization.</p> <p>Strong attention to detail and accuracy.</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>Outdoor fieldwork in all seasons.</p> <p>Exposure to traffic, noise, chemicals, and heavy equipment.</p> <p>Requires standing, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 25 pounds throughout the shift.</p> <p>How to Apply:</p> <p>Interested candidates should submit a City of Bixby Online Application.
