<p>Description and Functions</p> <p>Open Until Filled</p> <p>GENERAL DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>Since its founding in 1895, the Wyoming State Museum has been dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the entire state. Through exhibits, artifacts, and education programs for schools and the public, we share the story of Wyoming, from prehistoric times to the present. On average, the museum serves more than 70,000 individuals through its general visitation and programs.</p> <p>The Curator of Community Engagement is responsible for the community and visitor-focused efforts of the museum. It serves a crucial role in organizing and executing public events, increasing community awareness, recruiting and managing volunteers, and collecting and analyzing visitor data. The role oversees volunteers, interns, and seasonal employees, and is managed by the Supervisor of Exhibits & Programs. This position offers the opportunity to promote the museum's mission, providing visitors with unique, hands-on educational experiences.</p> <p>Human Resource Contact: stacy.sprengeler@wyo.gov, 307-777-7010</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.</p> <ul> <li>Lead, develop, and execute educational and cultural programs for the public. </li><li>Collaborate with external organizations and internal departments to develop impactful programs that align with the WSM's mission. </li><li>Create marketing materials and engage with local media outlets to advertise museum programs and other events. This includes graphics, media interviews, press releases, social media, and the WSM newsletter. </li><li>Represent the museum at community events to increase awareness of the museum. </li><li>Seek opportunities for collaborations between the museum and other institutions and community organizations. </li><li>Manage and supervise volunteers and interns through recruitment, training, scheduling, and communication. </li><li>Create and maintain supplies and documents for the museum's welcome desk. </li><li>Work with the Supervisor of Exhibits & Programs to manage assigned budgets, including writing and tracking grants and generating private sponsorship opportunities. </li><li>Collect and maintain visitor data and feedback from general visitation, exhibit content, and program attendees. </li><li>Track and report on relevant data, including, but not limited to, program attendance, volunteer hours, social media analytics, and visitor demographics. </li><li>Once every 7-8 weeks, serve a Monday through Saturday shift as the front-of-house manager. This role oversees museum security, responds to potential emergencies, and serves as the primary point of contact for visitors and volunteers. It is responsible for the opening and closing of the museum and covers the front desk if a volunteer is unavailable. </li><li>Serve on museum and agency committees and perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>PREFERENCES:</p> <p>Preference may be given to applicants with a Master's degree in museum studies, history, education, cultural resources, or a related field.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Knowledge of the principles of informal education and experiential learning.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to create lasting and productive partnerships with a variety of communities and organizations.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of customer service best practices</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication skills to meet the needs of various audiences</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work with a wide variety of age groups.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of developing and distributing effective marketing.</p> </li><li> <p>Public speaking and copywriting.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to manage and develop a volunteer program.</p> </li><li> <p>Individual and collaborative project management.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of museum evaluation practices, including: knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis, data collection and management best practices, and the ability to develop and implement evaluation plans for exhibits and programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Social media expertise, including understanding of various platforms, ability to create impactful content, and knowledge of how to track and evaluate posts.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of museum philosophy, best practices, and ethics</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of Google Suite (or similar)</p> </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree (typically in Cultural Resources)</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Cultural Resources)</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Education & ExperienceSubstitution:</p> <p>3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Cultural Resources)</p> <p>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:</p> <p>None</p> <p>Necessary Special Requirements</p> <p>PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <p>Work is typically performed indoors, but some outdoor work and travel are required.</p> <p>Must be ableto work occasional nights and weekends.</p> <p>NOTES:</p> <ul> <li>FLSA: Non-Exempt </li><li>Living in Cheyenne -Cheyenne is Wyoming's largest city and state capital. Outside of town are recreational opportunities at Curt Gowdy State Park and the Medicine Bow National Forest.
