<p>Title: Investigator - Southwest area</p> <p>Agency: Virginia State Bar</p> <p>Agency Website: www.vsb.org</p> <p>Recruitment Type: General Public - G</p> <p>Job Duties</p> <p>The Virginia State Bar, the state agency that regulates the practice of law in Virginia, seeks an investigator to investigate complaints of ethical misconduct by attorneys and the unauthorized practice of law. The primary territory is Southwest Virginia, including but not limited to Bland, Carroll, Floyd, Galax, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski, Radford, Wythe, Bristol, Smyth, Washington, Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, and Tazewell, but the successful candidate may also receive assignments in Roanoke, Blacksburg, and other areas of the state.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>The successful candidate should have a college degree in a related field and significant experience in investigative work and/or the legal field including:</p> <ul> <li>interviewing witnesses; </li><li>investigating complex financial transactions; </li><li>obtaining and researching records; </li><li>analyzing legal documents, including pleadings and court orders; </li><li>evaluating and organizing evidence; </li><li>drafting comprehensive reports of investigation and other documents; and </li><li>testifying in court proceedings. </li></ul> <p>In addition, the candidate must be able to prioritize assignments; maintain strict confidentiality; be able to manage a high-volume workload; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; be proficient in desktop applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook; and exercise good judgment and problem-solving skills. Experience in computer forensics, exposure to a wide range of legal matters, such as family law, criminal law and immigration law, and/or JD are favorable.</p> <p>Additional Considerations</p> <p>The successful candidate must be able to work independently from a home office with high- speed internet access in Southwest Virginia, Roanoke, Blacksburg, or a surrounding area within Virginia and willing to travel throughout the state, including overnight trips.
