<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Michigan Engineering Zone serves as a pathway for Detroit-area pre-college students to discover STEM professions and prepare for their future. The Michigan Engineering Zone is seeking highly organized, energetic, enthusiastic, and team-oriented individuals to serve in a key seasonal role with emphasis on instructional design and implementation.</p> <p>The Opportunity:</p> <p>Directly reporting to MEZ program managers, instructors will play an integral role in delivering the curriculum that participants experience. Instructors will work with a team of camp staff to teach and evaluate rising 6th through 12th grade participants. The curriculum consists of project-based learning that is split into courses that include English, engineering concepts, computer programming, and mathematics and physics concepts.</p> <p>The instructor must:</p> <ul> <li>Have at least a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study. </li><li>Have formal or informal teaching experience. </li><li>Have excellent oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Be prepared to teach in a way that is deeply responsive to students? needs. </li><li>Be flexible, willing to adapt to unique challenges, and accept tasks as they arise. </li><li>Be committed to the mission of the Michigan Engineering Zone. </li><li>(Preferred) Have a relevant teaching certificate. </li><li>(Preferred) Have experience teaching at middle/high school level. </li></ul> <p>The Work:</p> <ul> <li> <p>General Responsibilities</p> </li><li> <p>Develop/refine lesson plans, slide decks and other instructional material that align with the engineering kits selected for each program, as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with other instructor(s) to develop/refine instructional material to integrate cross-curricular connections, as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with the team to build out and manage the Canvas interface.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate expertise using engineering kits selected for the Summer Programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Create a troubleshooting toolkit to assist participants with engineering kits.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop structures for building classroom culture.</p> </li><li> <p>Document what occurs during each instructional period.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend all assigned classes and program-related events.</p> </li><li> <p>Professional Development</p> </li><li> <p>Attend all scheduled pre-program instructor professional development training.</p> </li><li> <p>Work closely with the program advisors and share plans for lesson implementation.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluation and Feedback</p> </li><li> <p>Plan and consult with the program managers to develop measures to assess student progress.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop grading/evaluation/accountability rubrics for participants in the program.</p> </li><li> <p>Administer course and student pre- and post-assessments.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate any issues and concerns that potentially challenge successful teaching and learning in the programs to the Program Manager(s) as they arise.</p> </li><li> <p>Reporting</p> </li><li> <p>Report to the Program Manager(s) at scheduled meetings regarding:</p> </li><li> <p>Progress relative to accomplishing course objectives.</p> </li><li> <p>Individual student achievement.</p> </li><li> <p>Any concerns that are relative to the classroom or overall operation of that may affect academic components.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop a detailed End of Program summary report.</p> </li><li> <p>Save all lesson plans, slide decks and other instructional material created/updated for summer programs in the Curriculum drive and include links in the End of Program report.</p> </li></ul> <p>Compensation:</p> <p>The compensation for this position is paid hourly at the rate of $25-$30 per hour for the hours of direct</p> <p>supervision of students and planning time. Compensation is based on education and experience.</p> <p>Employment Timeline (exact dates depend on camp assignment):</p> <p>June 1st - July 2nd Pre-planning and Asynchronous or In-Person Training (10 hours per week)</p> <p>June 15th - August 1st In-person programs (15-20 hours per week)</p> <p>Modes of Work</p> <p>Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
