No Career Ladder Path Department Name RI-INBRE Grant - Physical Sciences Department Full Time / Part Time full-time Scheduled Work Week / Hours / Area</p> <p>Full-time, 35-hours per week</p> <p>Academic or Calendar Year calendar Number of Employees Supervised 0 Position Overview</p> <p>The research associate will perform basic biomedical research to explore the function of DNA Polymerase Beta and its role in Melanoma. This position reports directly to the PI and assists in managing all laboratory activities both at RIC and Bryant University. In addition, the Research Associate will have an independent research project that meets the objectives of the RI-INBRE grant proposed by the PI.</p> <p>Primary Purpose</p> <p>The research associate will perform basic biomedical research to explore the function of DNA Polymerase Beta and its role in Melanoma. This position reports directly to the PI and assists in managing all laboratory activities both at RIC and Brown University. In addition, the Research Associate will have an independent research project that meets the objectives of the RI-INBRE grant proposed by the PI.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Study the role of DNA Polymerase Theta in melanoma using a variety of cellular, biochemical, and biophysical techniques. </li><li>Coordinate student schedules (including collaborations at Bryant University) and laboratory activities. </li><li>Maintain cell lines, express and purify recombinant protein. </li><li>Maintain chemical and biological inventory. </li><li>Establish and maintain transgenic zebrafish colony </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Assist in the ordering of supplies from vendors. </li><li>Maintain instruments. </li><li>Uphold strict chemical safety practices. </li><li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the PI. </li><li>Occasional fish husbandry duties including feedings, cleanings, etc. </li></ul> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of basic molecular techniques. </li><li>Strong communication skills. </li><li>Strong organizational and managerial skills </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Education: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Biology</p> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of two years' experience working in a laboratory setting. </li><li>Experience in protein expression, purification, cloning, biochemical assays. and/or working with zebrafish. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Biology</p> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The employee routinely handles recombinant DNA, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, zebrafish, electronic and other scientific equipment and chemicals appropriate to the discipline.</p>
