This role coordinates with multiple regulatory agencies, manages contractors and maintenance crews, oversees fire protection systems across all district facilities, and supports school administrators in maintaining comprehensive compliance documentation.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Regulatory Compliance & Agency Coordination</p> <ul> <li>Serve as primary liaison with the City of Gallup Fire Department, New Mexico State Fire Marshal's Office, EPA, OSHA, Navajo Nation, McKinley County, and other regulatory authorities to ensure district-wide compliance </li><li>Oversee all fire protection systems, alarms, panels, suppression systems, pump houses, and related infrastructure to ensure adherence to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and applicable regulations </li><li>Coordinate annual EPA and OSHA-compliant chemical, biological, and hazardous waste collection and disposal across all school sites </li><li>Stay current with changes in fire safety regulations, codes, best practices, and EPA/OSHA disposal requirements </li></ul> <p>Inspections, Audits & Hazard Mitigation</p> <ul> <li>Conduct independent school site and departmental inspections to identify fire and life safety hazards, ensure compliance with fire codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations </li><li>Accompany Fire Marshal and contractors during facility inspections to verify compliance, identify potential hazards, and document findings </li><li>Develop and implement corrective action plans for identified deficiencies </li><li>Coordinate re-inspections to verify remediation and closure of violations </li><li>Regularly assess school sites, auxiliary buildings, pump houses, and teacher housing units for compliance </li></ul> <p>Contractor & Maintenance Crew Management</p> <ul> <li>Manage relationships with certified third-party vendors to ensure timely completion of all required certifications, inspections, and testing </li><li>Coordinate with Maintenance & Operations (M&O) crews to address deficiencies identified during inspections </li><li>Oversee contractor scheduling, performance, and deliverables </li><li>Manage purchase orders and track expenditures </li><li>Develop and monitor annual budgets for fire systems maintenance, inspections, and compliance activities </li></ul> <p>School Site Support & Training</p> <ul> <li>Support school site administrators in managing site-specific Red Books by ensuring all third-party inspections are completed and documentation is current </li><li>Train principals, deans, and head custodians on proper record-keeping procedures for fire systems and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) </li><li>Ensure Red Books and MSDS books are up to date, centrally located, and readily available for regulatory review </li><li>Guide school administrators through inspection paperwork requirements and compliance processes </li><li>Facilitate communication between school sites and regulatory agencies </li></ul> <p>Documentation & Reporting</p> <ul> <li>Maintain comprehensive records of all inspections, testing, certifications, and corrective actions </li><li>Update and organize compliance reports and supporting documentation for all district facilities </li><li>Track inspection schedules, deficiencies, remediation progress, and closure documentation </li><li>Ensure all documentation meets regulatory standards and is audit-ready </li></ul> <p>Staff Supervision</p> <ul> <li>Manage assigned compliance and facilities staff </li><li>Delegate tasks and coordinate team activities to ensure comprehensive coverage of all responsibilities </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Perform other duties as assigned to support the facilities department and district compliance objectives </li></ul> <p>Expectations</p> <p>Knowledge & Expertise</p> <ul> <li>Willingness to learn and understand fire safety regulations, codes, and standards (NFPA) </li><li>Knowledge of EPA and OSHA requirements for chemical and hazardous waste disposal </li><li>Understanding of fire protection systems, alarms, suppression systems, and related infrastructure </li></ul> <p>Administrative & Management Skills</p> <ul> <li>Excellent contractor management and coordination abilities </li><li>Strong scheduling, purchase order oversight, and budget planning capabilities </li><li>Proven organizational skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships </li></ul> <p>Communication & Problem-Solving</p> <ul> <li>Effective communication skills for engaging with principals, deans, custodial staff, M&O crews, regulatory agencies, contractors, and senior leadership </li><li>Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve fire safety issues and hazards </li><li>Ability to translate technical regulatory requirements into actionable guidance </li></ul> <p>Professional Development</p> <ul> <li>Willingness to participate in training and certification programs such as Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) through NFPA </li><li>Commitment to completing OSHA HAZWOPER training and other relevant professional development </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required Education or Equivalent Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree or equivalent administrative work experience in facilities management, compliance, industrial, or related field </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with fire protection system design, installation, testing, and maintenance </li><li>Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and asset tracking software </li><li>Previous experience in educational facilities or institutional settings </li><li>Experience conducting fire safety audits and preparing compliance reports </li><li>Prior experience managing environmental health and safety programs </li><li>Demonstrated experience with budget development and capital planning for fire protection systems </li><li>Valid driver's license with clean driving record </li><li>Experience working with tribal governments or sovereign nations </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The position requires the ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Walk long distances and navigate stairs throughout school sites for extended periods </li><li>Stand for multiple hours during inspections and site visits </li><li>Climb ladders to inspect fire protection equipment </li><li>Crawl, crouch, and kneel to access systems in confined spaces </li><li>Use hands to finger, handle, and feel equipment and materials </li><li>Reach and lift with hands, legs, and arms </li><li>Demonstrate and properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) </li><li>Lift and move up to 50 pounds </li></ul> <p>Terms of
