This unit tests a variety of analytes in water, soil and other matrices for environmental pollutants using EPA methods. Primary duties involve testing metals, nutrients using ICPMS, ICPOES, Discrete analyzer, Ion Chromatography.</p> <p>This Chemist position (K0247224) will work as an integral part of the Inorganic and Radchem Unit by providing support to other analysts when the workload demands. Monitors inventory of supplies needed for analysis. Reviews and approves analytical data for accuracy and transfers results of chemical analysis using the Laboratory LIMS computer system. Analyzes and evaluates quality control samples to be used to set "Out of Control" levels and summarize precision and accuracy data, and quality control samples such as duplicates, spikes, blanks, and audits to confirm the reliability of data. Responsible for accurate reporting of results to the LIMS. Interprets, suggests and initiates correction of quality control problems. Maintains maximum analytical performance and instrument life through established maintenance procedures according to the appropriate Preventive Maintenance Documents. To assure that work has been documented and analysis completed accurately and efficiently, the work is reviewed by the laboratory program manager or an approved reviewer.</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required for this role as it is a requirement set by EPA. Performs analysis of metals in samples using ICPOES following EPA method 200.7. This includes reagent and standard preparation, instrument maintenance and waste disposal. </li></ul> <p>Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Performs analysis of metals and mercury in samples using ICPMS following EPA method 200.8. This includes reagent and standard preparation, instrument maintenance and waste disposal. </li><li>Performs analysis of ammonia, total phosphorus and TKN in water and soil samples using discrete analysis following EPA methods 350, 365 and 351. This includes reagent and standard preparation, instrument maintenance and waste disposal. </li><li>Performs analysis of ammonia, total phosphorus and TKN in water and soil samples using discrete analysis following EPA methods 350, 365 and 351. This includes reagent and standard preparation, instrument maintenance and waste disposal. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Education:</p> </li><li> <p>Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> </li><li> <p>Chemist I</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's degree in a natural science field with a minimum of 25 hours in chemistry. Experience in the natural science field may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency.</p> </li><li> <p>Chemist II</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's degree in a natural science field with a minimum of 25 hours in chemistry.
