We do this work on a personal, professional, and an institutional level, recognizing that our community is part of a larger and more complex world.</p> <p>The Dennis Collins Library at San Francisco University High School serves as a hub on campus for learning, research, fostering a culture of reading, and student activity. We are seeking a new librarian starting in the 2026-27 school year.</p> <p>Salary Description</p> <p>Annual Salary. Salary is based on a scale that is tied to years of relevant experience. Current full-time faculty salaries run from $83,995-$162,757.</p> <p>Qualifications: A master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or from a master's level program in library and information studies accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country) is the appropriate professional degree for school librarians.</p> <p>Experience: Candidates should have experience in at least two of the following categories:</p> <ul> <li>Experience working in a library for at least 3 years </li><li>Demonstrated teaching experience </li><li>Experience working with teenagers </li></ul> <p>Reports to: Director of Collaborative Programs</p> <p>Job Goals:</p> <ul> <li>To ensure that students and faculty/staff are effective users of ideas and information </li><li>To empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information </li><li>To collaborate with teachers to design and implement lessons and units of instruction. </li><li>To ensure free and equitable access to information. </li><li>To be an integrated member of the UHS community. </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <p>As Librarian</p> <ul> <li>Proactively seeks to collaborate with faculty on research and information needs of students. </li><li>Provides leadership and expertise in developing policy and establishing curriculum related to all types of information literacy, including media and AI literacy. </li><li>Develops and maintains a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, our students, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies used within the school community. </li><li>Manages, curates, utilizes, and demonstrates online databases and other resources. </li><li>Uses an OPAC (Koha) to catalog and circulate books. </li><li>Organizes the collection for maximum and effective use including thematic displays highlighting history, culture, and literature. </li><li>Creates and maintains an environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning in the library. </li><li>Represents the library in schoolwide faculty, committee, and department meetings. </li><li>Promotes the library and library program within the school community. </li><li>Communicates to the community about interesting and new resources within the library and responds to information inquiries. </li><li>Encourages students to become enthusiastic readers by acquiring and promoting appropriate titles as well as designing new ways for students to become involved with the library. </li><li>Cooperates and networks with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school, and guides students to connect with them. </li><li>Stays current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs </li><li>Evaluates, promotes, and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, and supplement school resources. </li><li>Models effective strategies for developing multiple literacies </li></ul> <p>As Teacher and Faculty</p> <ul> <li> <p>Works with faculty to create and teach structured research and information literacy skills programs as an integral part of the curriculum and in preparation for lifelong research and information literacy.</p> </li><li> <p>Teaches students fundamental and advanced aspects of research, including:</p> </li><li> <p>Distinguishing between types of sources (primary vs. secondary; academic vs. popular).</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding the structure of academic articles and how to use them.</p> </li><li> <p>Effective search techniques for both print and online resources.</p> </li><li> <p>How and when to cite sources.</p> </li><li> <p>Empowers students, in classes and individually, to become critical thinkers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborates with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry and learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking.</p> </li><li> <p>Works with students to:</p> </li><li> <p>Develop transferable skills to make them confident and competent consumers of the shifting information landscape.</p> </li><li> <p>Build the competency to find and assess information for academic and personal purposes.</p> </li><li> <p>Understand how to build on prior knowledge and construct new knowledge using relevant sources.</p> </li><li> <p>Engage in the world of information and all its formats.</p> </li></ul> <p>As a School Community Member</p> <ul> <li>Willing to take on responsibilities like mentoring, club sponsorship, and activity chaperoning. </li><li>Attends faculty meetings and professional development. </li><li>Participates in school-wide meetings and community days. </li></ul> <p>TO APPLY:</p> <p>If you are interested in being a candidate, please submit a résumé and cover letter using the online application system.</p> <p>NON-DISCRIMINATION</p> <p>San Francisco University High School is an equal-opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit.
