<p>Job Title: Laboratory Group Leader and InstructorJob Description</p> <p>This role functions as the group leader and instructor for laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants, and students in a large university laboratory and teaching program. It provides professional-level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Lead and instruct laboratory technicians, assistants, and students in a university laboratory. </li><li>Provide professional-level laboratory technical support using scientific clinical methods. </li><li>Perform and oversee multistage purifications, nucleic acid extractions, and various assays and tests. </li><li>Prepare tissues, chemicals, and nucleic acids for testing in genetic studies. </li><li>Log and enter computer records of sample identity data and processing data. </li><li>Inventory, store, and track extracted samples in -80 degrees centigrade freezer storage. </li><li>Retrieve and prepare stored samples for distribution, creating a computer log of samples. </li><li>Perform quality control and assurance checks during sample processing. </li><li>Investigate sample discrepancies using Southern analysis, PCR, or pedigree analysis. </li><li>Conduct equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and reagent preparation. </li><li>Order supplies and interface with service personnel for instrumentation. </li><li>Respond to equipment failures, executing relocation plans and arranging repairs. </li><li>Perform basic molecular biology assays, including DNA/RNA isolation and PCR. </li><li>Operate robotic systems for high-throughput analysis. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, preferably Biology. </li><li>Experience in academic lab settings and related coursework. </li><li>Proficiency in manual or automated pipetting. </li><li>Basic knowledge of molecular biology assays and techniques. </li><li>Three months of documented laboratory training in high complexity testing. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience in DNA or biochemical extraction and blood cell separation. </li><li>Familiarity with tissue culture and laboratory reagent preparation. </li><li>Handling of biohazardous materials. </li><li>Working knowledge of MS Office and database systems. </li><li>Ability to work autonomously and under pressure. </li><li>Capability to lift and move up to 30 pounds. </li><li>Effective communication skills and data recording abilities. </li><li>Participation in occupational health and safety programs. </li><li>Degree credential equivalency evaluation for international qualifications. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The role involves biobanking and bioprocessing activities. Work hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, as part of the second shift. The environment includes handling sophisticated laboratory equipment and maintaining a professional dress code.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Piscataway, NJ.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
