<p>Position:</p> <p>SEI Math Teacher, Grades 6-8</p> <p>Multilingual Learner Education Department/Vassal Lane Upper School</p> <p>Overview of Cambridge Public Schools:</p> <p>The Cambridge Public Schools (CPS), in partnership with our families and community, provides all students with rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning as well as the social, emotional, and academic supports each student needs to achieve their goals and post-secondary success as engaged community members. Our schools proudly embrace this diversity.</p> <p>The Role:</p> <p>The SEI Math teacher will teach math to English Learners in grades 6-8 in the Sheltered English Immersion Program at the Vassal Lane Upper School using the Math Department Curriculum, the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks and appropriate English language development pedagogy.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Plan grade-level math lessons that are appropriately scaffolded for English language learners. </li><li>Modify math department curriculum to fit the academic, linguistic, and literacy needs of EL/SLIFE students. </li><li>Work cooperatively with personnel from the MLE Department, Math Department, and Vassal Lane Upper School staff. </li><li>Provide culturally responsive instruction for EL students. </li><li>Attend school-based and department professional learning opportunities </li><li>Keep accurate grades and communicate with parents on a regular basis throughout the year. </li><li>Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Multilingual Learner Education </li></ul> <p>Your Skill Set:</p> <p>As the incoming SEI Math Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Massachusetts Educator License in Math 5-8 and SEI Endorsement required; additional ESL 5-12 license preferred. </li><li>Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a concentration in mathematics. </li><li>One or more years' experience working with diverse student populations in grades 6-12 in an urban, multicultural setting preferred. </li><li>Proficiency in English and fluency in a language other than English (Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Amharic, or Arabic) preferred. </li></ul> <p>How to Join Our Team:</p> <p>Please upload a resume and thoughtful cover letter, outlining how your skills, experience, and commitment to equity in education meet the qualifications of the position as well as stating how you heard about this opportunity.</p> <p>At the Cambridge Public Schools, we are committed to cultivating an environment where diverse perspectives and backgrounds are embraced, acknowledging that a team reflecting diversity of race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, age, gender, marital/domestic partner status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, and veteran status allows us to serve our communities better.
