<p>Company Overview:</p> <p>The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) is one of the largest public health agencies in the world, serving 8 million New Yorkers. The breadth of our innovative programs provides the widest range of choices for every member of our team.</p> <p>The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant but will work be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position.</p> <p>Division Overview:</p> <p>DOHMH's Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR) was created to promote DOHMH's and NYC's ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from health emergencies. OEPR coordinates agency-wide emergency preparedness planning, exercises and training, evaluation of incident response, exercise performance and coordinating with community stakeholders, city, state & federal partners on public health emergency planning and response. OEPR's work focuses on promoting and protecting public health through emergency preparedness and response; and recognizes that social inequities negatively impact our efforts to maintain and improve the health of NYC during and after a disaster.</p> <p>This position sits in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (ODC) of OEPR. The ODC assists the Deputy Commissioner with managing her work and houses key programmatic initiatives that benefit from a central position in the Division (programs that require significant cross-unit or agency wide collaboration, high profile or sensitive programs, work that provides broad benefit across units in the Division, etc). The ODC also contains the Equity and Racial Justice Unit, which focuses on enhancing health equity and addressing disparities in planning, response, and recovery.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>DOHMH has an opening for a Strategic Projects Coordinator who will report to the Director of Strategy and Program Development in the ODC. This position will play a key role in supporting a wide array of initiatives, spanning many areas including workforce development, partnerships with academia to support greater preparedness, development of Mutual Aid protocols, agency-wide program implementation for preparedness, and more. This position will also partially report (approximately 25%) to the Director of Policy & Communications to support policy projects related to OEPR's mission. This is a great opportunity for a self-starter who thrives in spaces where they can be involved in many different projects and is an excellent position to get wide exposure to the work of OEPR and DOHMH at large.</p> <p>Duties:</p> <p>The Strategic Projects Coordinator will:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate/project manage DOHMH's work with the Preparedness & Recovery Institute (a partnership with the CUNY and Columbia Schools of Public Health), including tracking deliverables, preparing for meetings and working sessions, and liaising with both DOHMH and external stakeholders </li><li>Support the development and continued operations of OEPR workforce development programs, including but not limited to an internal Fellowship program </li><li>Support the development of new strategic projects for the Deputy Commissioner's office, including the development of new Mutual Aid protocols to guide DOHMH's work with other jurisdictions in emergencies and other projects in the Strategy and Program Development portfolio </li><li>Assist the Director of Strategy & Program Development with the coordination and implementation of Response Ready, an Agency-wide strategic initiative to build readiness across DOHMH </li><li>Support the Director of Policy and Communications on high-priority policy and legislative asks </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree </li><li>Previous experience working in fields related to public health, emergency preparedness and response or related field for 1 year. </li></ul> <p>Additional Desired Qualities:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with stakeholder engagement and project management. </li><li>Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Strong analytical skills and ability to manage and report complex information. </li><li>Experience with data collection, analysis and interpretation. </li><li>Desire to grow professionally, develop new skills and willingness to work outside of comfort zone. </li><li>Experience working with the public health sector and coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders. </li><li>Ability to prioritize and work in fast-paced environment with hard deadlines. </li><li>Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. </li></ul> <p>Benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Hybrid Work Schedule. </li><li>Generous Paid Time Off and Holidays. </li><li>An attractive and comprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental and Vision. </li><li>Flexible Spending Accounts and Commuter Benefits. </li><li>Company Paid Life Insurance and Disability Coverage. </li><li>403 (b) + employer matching and discretionary company contributions. </li><li>College Savings Plan. </li><li>Ongoing training and continuous opportunities for professional growth and development. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li>This is a temporary grant-funded position. </li><li>This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date. </li><li>Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties. </li><li>This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies. </li></ul> <p>At PHS, we place immense value on diversity within our teams, understanding that varied backgrounds and experiences significantly enhance our community and propel us toward our goals.
