<p>Job Description and Duties</p> <p>Are you looking to be a part of a dynamic team that manages and assesses California's inland fisheries resources? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Fisheries Branch is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Scientific Aid on the Inland Fisheries Assessment and Monitoring (IFAM) Program's statewide field crew. IFAM's goal is to maintain and improve both warm and coldwater recreational sport fish populations within California's lakes and reservoirs, and is based out of the West Sacramento Field Station. These positions engage in a wide variety of projects and will have the opportunity to participate in state-funded travel throughout the state. This is a great opportunity to learn multiple survey techniques including boat and backpack electrofishing, collection of scales and genetic tissue, gill netting, collection of benthic macroinvertebrates, habitat and water quality evaluation, and angler surveys. Main duties may include field-based fisheries research to assess the status of fish populations; coordinating the seasonal landlocked salmon egg collection (Kokanee and Chinook); data entry, management, and quality assurance; and aiding the fishing contest permit process. There will also be opportunity to gain experience in analyzing and summarizing data for publications and in the regulatory processes of Fisheries Branch. If not in the office, travel to remote field sites on unpaved roads in 4x4 vehicles may be required. Hours are variable, 15-40 hours/week. This position is seasonal in nature and available work is heaviest in spring and fall.
