<p>DEFINITION: Under direction fo Special Education personnel, provides assessment and consultant services to classroom teachers, as well as direct instruction to pupils with visual impairments as needs are identified. QUALIFICATION: Credential The minimum requirement is a valid California teaching credential issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, authorizing service as a teacher of exceptional students handicapped. (Prefer dual certification including Orientation and Mobility.) Experience Preference will be given to those applicants with successful teaching experience working with the visually handicapped population. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: <em>Demonstrates knowledge of visual handicaps, related medical etiologies, and resulting symptomatic and behavior manifestations. </em>Provides assessment and evaluation of pupils through standards assessment procedures and prepares appropriate reports. <em>Attends Individualized Education Program Team meetings as required. Provides recommendations for itinerant visually handicapped services and participates in placement decisions. </em>Develops, monitors, and evaluates the Individualized Education program to see that performance objectives and lesson plans are consistent with pupil needs. <em>Completes periodic progress reviews of assigned pupils' expected progress toward an objective. </em>Teaches in accordance with the abilities and achievements of the pupils assigned to his/her caseload. <em>Demonstrates knowledge and application of behavior management techniques. </em> Serves as a resource to, and works cooperatively with Special Education and regular teachers by providing information, consultation, instructional materials and suggested activities for visually handicapped pupils. <em>Works cooperatively with principals, Special Education personnel, and District administrators to develop materials and suggested activities for visually handicapped pupils. </em>Prepares required records and reports in a competent and timely manner. <em> Attends required in-service training activities and assists in planning in-service programs. </em>Makes appropriate parent contact and serves as a consultant to parents. * Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or the Director's designee.</p> <p>Requirements / Qualifications</p>
