The Lab Tech Assistant - Pathology's primary job function is to prepare and process pathology and cytology specimens for testing. The Lab Tech Assistant - Pathology also performs light transcription duties as necessary when locum pathologists are present. Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required </li><li>Basic Chemistry and Biology preferred </li></ul> <p>Licensure:</p> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>2 years of Laboratory or related experience preferred </li><li>Medical Terminology preferred </li></ul> <p>JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS</p> <p>The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Specific activities may change from time to time.</p> <ol> <li> <p>Distributes and files pathology reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Distributes incoming mail</p> </li><li> <p>Fills supply orders from doctors' offices.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares slides and blocks for send-out to physicians and reference laboratory.</p> </li><li> <p>Accessions surgical and cytological specimens in the Pathology computer system.</p> </li><li> <p>Assigns billing codes and number of blocks and slides to surgical and cytological specimens.</p> </li><li> <p>Coverslips and labels slides.</p> </li><li> <p>Answers telephone and processes requests for pathology reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares billing for the pathologists' professional billing company.</p> </li><li> <p>Registers patients in the HIS as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Cleans and stocks supplies (formalin containers, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Verifies patient identification.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares pathology accession logs and specimens for transport to other facilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares and labels cytology and histology samples/solutions for diagnostic testing.</p> </li><li> <p>Transports specimens from surgery to the laboratory.</p> </li><li> <p>May transcribe from dictation gross pathology and micro pathology reports, as needed for locum pathologist coverage.</p> </li><li> <p>May proofread pathology reports, as needed for locum pathologist coverage.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ol> <p>Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position in accordance with applicable law.
