<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Footwear and Accessories Design Technologist C works with department staff to support faculty and students in educational classroom environments. This role involves demonstrating and overseeing the proper use of footwear, handbag, and millinery equipment while adhering to health and safety protocols. The technologist provides guidance in product pattern-making, sewing, and leather skiving, fostering a hands-on learning experience for students.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Work as part of a team of department staff to assist faculty and students with safe and appropriate handbag, footwear and millinery equipment and studio usage. </li><li>Assist faculty in the preparation and organization of course materials and equipment needed for classroom demonstrations. </li><li>Demonstrate and monitor proper and safe use of footwear, handbag and millinery equipment and materials. </li><li>Make routine repairs and adjustments to equipment as required and to ensure all footwear, handbag and millinery equipment is in working order. </li><li>Troubleshoot technical issues and assist students with pattern-making, sewing and skiving in the studio setting. </li><li>Maintain and inspect inventory of all tools and equipment in the footwear and accessories studios, including sewing machines, skiving machines, sanding machines, shoe lasts, hat blocks, and hand tools, research and recommend new and replacement tools, and obtain quotes for the purchase and repair of equipment and tools. </li><li>Oversee supervised labs to ensure that students operate equipment safely and follow best practices. </li><li>Ensure compliance with the Department of Environmental Health and Safety regarding hazardous chemicals and equipment use, plus maintain current Safety Data Sheets for chemicals and hazardous materials used in the studios. </li><li>Assist with student exhibitions, including the set up and take down of student work. </li></ul> <p>The preceding description is not designed to be a complete list of all duties and responsibilities required of the position; other duties may be assigned consistent with the classification of the position.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree in Footwear, Accessories, or a related field required. </li><li>3-5 years experience in footwear and accessories design or a related field. </li><li>Proficient in footwear and accessories design machine use. </li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and Adobe. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>5+ years experience in footwear and accessories design or a related field preferred. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of design principles and practices; mechanical systems and processes; communications, media, and the fine arts; education and training methods; and cultural and social contexts relevant to accessories design. </li><li>Strong instructional, active listening, and communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to support student learning and collaborate effectively with faculty and staff. </li><li>Demonstrated ability in active learning, critical thinking, and applying new information in dynamic academic and studio settings. </li><li>Effective time management, coordination, and judgment to manage studio operations, materials, and competing priorities. </li><li>Proficiency in identifying and resolving technical issues through deductive and inductive reasoning, spatial awareness, and creative problem-solving. </li><li>Experience with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and safe operation of tools and machinery used in accessories design and fabrication. </li><li>Comfortable working with numbers and measurements related to the role. </li><li>Commitment to creating inclusive learning environments, with sensitivity to differing backgrounds and learning needs. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Please note all offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of the background check process.</p> <p>Salary</p> <p>Salary: $39.17 per hour</p> <p>The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. This position will require the wear of common protective or safety equipment.
