<p>Description</p> <p>Title: Child Care Center ("CCC") Teacher Assistant</p> <p>Position Number: 0078596T</p> <p>Hiring Unit: Communications and Services Programs (TECH II)</p> <p>Location: Honolulu Community College</p> <p>Date Posted: August 13, 2025</p> <p>Closing Date: August 28, 2025</p> <p>Band: A9</p> <p>Salary: salary schedules and placement information</p> <p>Full Time/Part Time: Full-time</p> <p>Month: 9-Month</p> <p>Temporary/Permanent: Temporary</p> <p>Other Conditions: Special funds, to begin approximately August 2025, pending position clearance, availability of funds, program needs, and satisfactory performance.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Serves as assistant teacher in the preschool room working with children ages 2.5-5 years old, and/or caregiver in infant or toddler rooms with children 3 months - 3 years old in early childhood education labs on community college campuses on Oahu. </li><li>Helps to ensure that the program aligns with the content and processes of Honolulu Community College's instructional program for early childhood education students. </li><li>Models appropriate practitioner behavior for early childhood education students. </li><li>Keeps abreast of appropriate State of Hawaii child care licensing rules and regulations and maintains standards at all times. </li><li>Keeps abreast of and maintains accreditation standards for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and participates in the accreditation process. </li><li>Administers the food service program to meet all state regulatory and USDA requirements. </li><li>With guidance of lead teaching team and/or site coordinator, provides regular training for staff on food service and USDA procedures and requirements. </li><li>Assists in the maintenance of a healthy, safe and well-organized learning environment. </li><li>Assists lead teacher and lead caregivers (working with children between 3 months through 5 years of age), in establishing and maintaining a developmentally appropriate program for children. </li><li>Assists Preschool Lead Teacher and/or Infant/Toddler Lead Caregiver in daily routines, transitions, planning and conducting of age-appropriate individual and group curriculum activities based upon most current knowledge of child development/best practices. </li><li>Utilizes child management and guidance techniques in keeping with established principles of child development. </li><li>Helps to maintain communication with the families of children enrolled in the children's program and in providing opportunities for their involvement in the program activities. </li><li>Assists in informing families of program policies and procedures and assists with family conferences to discuss children's progress. </li><li>Maintains program records as directed; e.g., attendance, meal counts, child observation and assessment, etc. </li><li>Participates in staff meetings, staff development activities, attends events and workshops or other activities. </li><li>Functions as substitute teacher in preschool/toddler/infant classrooms when Lead Preschool Teacher, Lead Infant/Toddler Caregiver is unavailable or out of the room. Supervises; takes charge of the classroom when lead teaching staff is not present. </li><li>Works with lead teaching staff and assists with staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage in each classroom throughout the semester. </li><li>Supervise and mentor classroom staff (student aides) in appropriate child guidance practices, classroom planning and preparation, child observation practices, and overall supervision of children to assure health and safety. </li><li>Assists in requesting of materials and supplies, coordination of maintenance of facility, repair/replacement of equipment as needed for program operation. </li><li>Assists lead teacher and/or lead caregiver as well as site coordinator in making recommendations for referrals to appropriate agencies when additional services are needed. </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with 16 credits in Early Childhood Education coursework, 3 of which must be infant/toddler related and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for early childhood care and education (children birth to age 2); or equivalent education/training or experience. </li><li>Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in early childhood education demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. </li><li>Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with early childhood education. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the early childhood education. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. </li><li>Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. </li><li>Hawaii State Registry certification reflecting ability to work as an Infant/Toddler Caregiver and an Assistant Teacher. </li><li>Related fields to include: Human Development, Family Resources, Human Ecology, Social Work with specialty in working with children and families, Elementary Education, Psychology, Special Education or Social Science. </li><li>At least 6 months of progressively responsible professional experience working with children between the ages of 2 to 5 years of age. </li><li>Ability to fulfill 20 hours of professional development activities annually. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Functional knowledge of food service rules and regulations, USDA requirements, and food handling experience. </li><li>Experience training and/or mentoring of adult learners. </li><li>3 years of progressively responsible experience working directly with children between the ages of 2 ½ years through 5 years old. </li><li>3 years of progressively responsible experience working directly with children between 3 months to 2 ½ years old. </li><li>Experience working with NAEYC accreditation requirements and standards. </li><li>Experience working with diverse student populations. </li><li>30 credits of early childhood education or child development coursework with 9 credits focused on infant/toddler care and/or development. </li><li>Ability to work with basic computer software office applications (e.g., EXCEL, PowerPoint, Publisher, photo/video, etc.) </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Click on the "Apply" button at the top right corner of the screen to complete an application and attach required documents (please redact SSN and birthdate on all uploaded documents).</p> <p>Required Documents include:</p> <ul> <li>Graduate and undergraduate transcript(s) showing degree and coursework to date appropriate to the position; an unofficial copy of the transcript (e.g. copy) must be submitted with the application, and original official transcript(s) will be required at the time of hire.
