<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Campus Title: Dining Hall Supervisor</p> <p>State Job Title: Dining Hall Supervisor</p> <p>Department: Dining Services</p> <p>Job Code: H11X05</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Funding: 7115-6014</p> <p>Bargaining Unit: AFSCME</p> <p>Job Type: Full-time Permanent</p> <p>Timeframe: 35 Weeks (Academic Calendar)</p> <p>Shift: Position #1 Tuesday-Saturday 4:00pm-11:30pm Position #2 Sunday-Thursday 4:00pm-11:30pm</p> <p>Regular Days Off: Position #1 Sunday and Monday / Position #2 Friday and Saturday</p> <p>Supervision Received: Receives supervision from one of the Assistant Managers of Dining Services who assigns work and reviews performance.</p> <p>Supervision Exercised: The Dining Supervisor exercises direct supervision of one to five dining services personnel and student employees</p> <p>Salary: $1,727.99 Bi-weekly</p> <p>Two Positions will be hired from this one posting</p> <p>General Statement of Duties:</p> <p>Supervises the preparation of the set-up and serving of the meals. Continually inspects the food for quality during the meal hours. Trains new employees and performs related work as required.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Duties include but not limited to:</p> <p>Essential:</p> <ul> <li>Supervises the preparation and the setting up of the dining rooms and serving areas prior to and during each meal during assigned shifts. </li><li>Inspects foods during the meal period for taste, appearance and temperature. </li><li>Supervises the portioning of food to control and eliminate waste. </li><li>Inspects equipment and dining room for cleanliness and condition of repairs, reporting any problems using standard forms and established policy. </li><li>Keeps records of amount of food used and the number of meals served daily. </li><li>Trains new employees using department and University training manuals and materials. </li><li>Assists in recording attendance for dining room employees using department equipment and established procedures. </li><li>Assists in planning and serving special banquets and functions. </li><li>Assigns the work stations and duties to direct reporting staff. </li><li>Secures and issues cash, employee meal tickets and prepares bank deposits. </li><li>Assists in preparing employee annual performance evaluations. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Qualifications Required at Hire:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to understand and apply the laws, rules, policies and procedures governing the department. </li><li>Ability to judge the proper quality, appearance and condition of foods by sensory observation. </li><li>Ability to follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise and understandable manner. </li><li>Ability to supervise, including assigning work, training and motivating employees. </li><li>Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. </li><li>Ability to work varied shifts and/or irregular hours (i.e. weekends, holidays, nights) </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Acquired on Job:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the laws, regulations, departmental and university policies, procedures, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities. </li><li>Knowledge of department procedures for preparation, service and storage of food and beverages. </li><li>Knowledge of a computer menu and payroll system. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Entrance Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>At least 3 years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in food service work in a hotel, restaurant, cafeteria or catering firm. </li><li>A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at a high school level or higher with a major in home economics, culinary arts, food service or food trades may be substituted for the required experience. </li></ul> <p>License and/or Certification Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Incumbents must be certified as food handlers within 90 days of the appointment start date through a recognized program approved by the university (i.e., ServSafe). </li></ul> <p>Remarks:</p> <p>National Restaurant Association Applied Food Service Sanitation certification preferred or willingness to attend the course</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Salary:</p> <p>Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
