The Managing Librarian for Liaison Services serves as the library's experts on research, learning culture, and information practices in the field of theology.</p> <p>Supervises and develops select departmental staff. Leads and manages general research support services to ensure their effectiveness at best meeting the needs of the Library's constituents. Liaises with academic department(s) and program(s).</p> <p>Core responsibilities include instruction, research support, and library resource development in assigned discipline(s), and the promotion, assessment, program development, and scheduling of general research support in collaboration with the Managing Access Services Librarian.</p> <p>Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian Order. Leads and coordinates general research support services in coordination with the Director of Research Services and Scholarly Engagement. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff. Implements an active and engaging outreach program to ensure awareness of library services. Communicates and advocates for community resource needs. Shares expertise through instruction and partners with faculty on research projects. Consults with students on research and coursework and creates educational resources. Works collaboratively to steward collections in assigned discipline(s) through selection, assessment, and deselection to support changing academic needs of scholars. Engages in continual professional development to keep current with trends and emerging issues in areas of responsibility and expertise. </li><li>Manages liaison librarians. Supports professional development of staff in support of departmental operations. Fosters a working environment that is inclusive, respectful, collegial, and conducive to learning and productivity. Leads and implements change to improve operations and motivates staff to collaborate and innovate effectively. </li><li>Contributes to departmental efforts including participating in development, promotion, and assessment of programs and services. Works collaboratively to set directions, manage projects, and support opportunities for cross-training. </li><li>Leads and contributes to programs, goals, and strategic initiatives of the Research Services and Scholarly Engagement department, Falvey Library, Villanova University, and professional organizations, as appropriate. Performs other duties and assists with projects as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Formal Education</p> <ul> <li>MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline. </li></ul> <p>Work Experience</p> <ul> <li>3+ years of professional experience in research support, information literacy instruction and resource selection in an academic library or equivalent experience in assigned area. </li></ul> <p>Work Skills</p> <ul> <li>Collaborative approach to problem solving and working across organizational boundaries in service of user needs. </li><li>Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to present information and ideas clearly and concisely. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, staff at all levels of the campus hierarchy, a diverse community of faculty and students, and external partners. </li><li>Serious commitment to excellence, quality, accuracy, and attention to detail. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to set priorities, exercise flexibility in meeting objectives, effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adjust as circumstances change. </li><li>Personal leadership through example coupled with ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment. </li></ul> <p>Specific Job Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>In-depth knowledge of the research needs and information sources in assigned discipline(s). </li><li>Demonstrated familiarity with general research services models in academic libraries. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to provide research consulting in assigned discipline(s) </li><li>In-depth knowledge of teaching principles and practices relevant to effective information literacy instruction. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to develop creative and entrepreneurial approaches to promoting library services. </li><li>Experience in developing research level collections in assigned discipline(s). </li><li>Clear understanding of discipline-specific research and scholarly communication practices. </li><li>Understanding of the mission of a research university and of the changing educational environment. </li><li>Experience in the use of research and analysis to drive strategy. </li><li>Successful experience managing complex projects. </li><li>Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance. </li><li>Proven record of ongoing professional development. </li></ul> <p>Equipment Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work with a wide and changing variety of software applications, including content management systems, integrated library systems, patron-oriented communication and scheduling software, commercially available databases, presentation software, etc. </li><li>Proficiency with MS Office products. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <p>Formal Education</p> <ul> <li>Second advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred. </li></ul> <p>Work Experience</p> <ul> <li>5+ years of progressively responsible experience in collection work, information literacy instruction, and research support in an academic library. </li><li>1+ years of personnel management experience. </li></ul> <p>Work Skills</p> <ul> <li>Transparent and inclusive leadership style </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:</p> <ul> <li>Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time, frequent bending and lifting, able to lift to 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking, pushing and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs., ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis. </li><li>The Library is open 90+ hours a week. May be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays on a regular or interim basis.
