<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Humanities Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Studio Art with a specialization in painting/drawing. The successful candidate will inspire students through a fresh pedagogical approach, and demonstrate the ability to teach artistic skills and concepts effectively across a range of courses in painting, drawing, 2-D/3-D foundations, as well as in upper-level studio courses. We are seeking artists whose creative work and teaching is relevant to non-Art majors, as well as to majors in our two new art-based programs, Creative Arts Enterprise and Creative Arts Therapies. Artists with an interest in art and community engagement are encouraged to apply. An M.F.A. degree (or equivalent terminal degree) in studio art and record of successful college-level teaching experience are required.</p> <p>Supervision Received: Department Chair of Humanities</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching workload includes four 3-credit courses per term (24 semester hours of credit of instruction per school year), as well as preparation for classroom instruction. </li><li>Teach a range of studio art courses with a two-dimensional focus, including courses such as Drawing, Intro to Studio Art, Life Drawing, Drawing the Figure in Action, Intro Painting, Water-Based Media, as well as upper-level courses such as Intermediate Drawing, Intermediate Painting, and Advanced Open Media. </li><li>Provide professional mentorship, supporting students through internships, Capstone exhibitions, and the development of their professional artist portfolios. </li><li>Collaborate with other studio faculty on studio management: purchase supplies, art equipment, and materials; maintain the working environment of the studio classrooms and storage facilities. </li><li>Collaborate with studio faculty on organizing exhibitions, such as visiting artist shows selected by the gallery committee and ARTeries, the annual juried student show. </li><li>Provide student assistance including academic advising. </li><li>Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews and student outcomes assessment, as well as departmental and college-wide committees. </li><li>Attend university functions, including commencement, convocation, and faculty, committee and department meetings. </li><li>Participate in scheduled orientation and registration programs. </li><li>Engage in continuing scholarship and professional activities, which may include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community. </li><li>Optional opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate evening courses. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>M.F.A. degree (or equivalent terminal degree) in Studio Art. </li><li>Record of successful college-level teaching experience. </li><li>Ability to teach courses such as Drawing, Intro Studio, Life Drawing, Intro Painting, Water-Based Media, Design, along with more advanced courses in studio art. </li><li>An active and visible record as a practicing artist. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body. </li><li>Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching. </li><li>Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university. </li><li>Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Application Deadline: September 30, 2025</p> <p>Application Review begins October 1, 2025</p> <p>This is a full-time, Tenure Track, 9 month benefited position, beginning September 1, 2026.</p> <p>Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience and in accordance with the MSCA Bargaining Agreement There are opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate courses.</p> <p>The successful candidate must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board/Sexual Offender Registry Information (CORI/SORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.</p> <p>Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.</p> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>Please submit:</p> <ul> <li>Letter of Interest describing teaching experience. </li><li>Curriculum Vitae with links to online websites. </li><li>Teaching Philosophy </li><li>Three Professional References </li><li>Portfolio of Artistic Work, 20 images as a PDF file.
