<p>OTTUMWA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS</p> <p>Ottumwa, Iowa</p> <p>POSITION TITLE: High School Assistant Principal</p> <p>REPORTS TO: High School Principal</p> <p>PURPOSE STATEMENT: To assist the principal in providing school-wide leadership and to learn the role of the principal. To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of each student and staff member and to achieve and maintain an environment for student learning within the school.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Iowa certification endorsement in secondary administration. </li><li>Administrative experience of at least 2 years is highly preferred. </li><li>At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level. </li><li>Strong communication, collaboration, data analysis, consensus building, and technology skills. </li><li>Strong knowledge base around teaching and learning at the secondary level. </li></ul> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Provides leadership for all curricular areas. </li><li>Assists formal and informal classroom observations for the purpose of evaluating and improving instruction. </li><li>Assists the supervision, recruitment, assignment evaluation, and dismissal of school staff. </li><li>Provides direct supervision of the office staff assigned to the assistant principals' office. </li><li>Directly facilities, supervises, and evaluates teacher associates. </li><li>Assists in initiating and implementing guidelines for student conduct. </li><li>Supervises the recording, reporting, and monitoring of student absences. </li><li>Monitors the behavior of students in the total educational setting and takes corrective measures when appropriate. </li><li>Supervises the handling and storage of student records. </li><li>Maintains accurate records of student discipline matters, educational matters, and attendance matters. </li><li>Assists in monitoring of district philosophy and goals to students, staff, and the community. </li><li>Maintains professional growth through graduate work, seminars, professional organizations, and relevant reading. </li><li>Assists in the implementation of supportive services to meet the needs of students and staff. </li><li>Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school. </li><li>Serves as principal in the absence of the regular principal. </li><li>Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives. </li><li>Performs such recordkeeping functions as the principal may direct. </li><li>Supervises teachers and departments as assigned by the principal. </li><li>Maintains detailed recordkeeping regarding student discipline. </li><li>Provides leadership in utilizing technology in the learning program. </li><li>Communicates effectively internally and externally regarding operations as the school. </li><li>Recommends proper placement and accesses necessary services for students and parents. </li><li>Administers student discipline in accordance with student Code of Conduct, administration regulations, state administrative rules, and school district policy. </li><li>Assists the principal and other staff members in activities related to curriculum, instructional development, and other such areas as assigned by the principal. </li><li>Supervises students in hallways, study hall, lunch, building exterior, and library. </li><li>Supervises the cafeteria lunch program. </li><li>Provides supervision of a variety of extracurricular activities. </li><li>Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>Never</p> <p>0%</p> <p>Occasional</p> <p>1-32%</p> <p>Frequent</p> <p>33-66%</p> <p>Constant</p> <p>67% +</p> <p>A.</p> <p>Standing</p> <p>X</p> <p>B.</p> <p>Walking</p> <p>X</p> <p>C.</p> <p>Sitting</p> <p>X</p> <p>D.</p> <p>Bending/Stooping</p> <p>X</p> <p>E.</p> <p>Reaching/Pushing/Pulling</p> <p>X</p> <p>F.</p> <p>Climbing/Stairs</p> <p>X</p> <p>G.</p> <p>Driving</p> <p>X</p> <p>H.</p> <p>Lifting (10 lbs.)</p> <p>X</p> <p>I.</p> <p>Carrying (20 feet)</p> <p>X</p> <p>J.</p> <p>Manual Dexterity Tasks</p> <p>Telephone</p> <p>X</p> <p>Computer</p> <p>X</p> <p>Other</p> <p>K.</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Inside</p> <p>X</p> <p>Outside</p> <p>X</p> <p>Extremes of</p> <p>Temperature/Humidity</p> <p>X</p> <p>All of the above duties and responsibilities are essential job functions subject to reasonable accommodation.
