<p>Employment Type:</p> <p>Part time</p> <p>Shift:</p> <p>Day Shift</p> <p>Description:</p> <p>TITLE: Security Officer ELSA STATUS: Non-Exempt</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Safety & Security</p> <p>SUPERVISOR: Manager - Facilities, Security & Emergency Preparedness</p> <p>GENERAL SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Security Officer carries out the responsibilities of maintaining order within the hospital by monitoring and securing the premises and by responding to threats and safety concerns. Enforces all health center regulations in accordance with applicable operation guides. This position will provide support to nursing and other staff in management of escalating patient/family situations by working to de-escalate the people involved. This position will assist patients and families with customer service needs by serving as an ambassador for the clinic and hospital.</p> <p>CORPORATE PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT: It is the obligation of each employee of MercyOne Medical Center to abide by and promote the mission and core values of the Spirit of Mercy.</p> <p>CORPORATE POLICY STATEMENT:</p> <p>It is the obligation of each employee of MercyOne Medical Center to comply with MercyOne's mission, values, standards of conduct, policies, procedures, and related practices (e.g., Dress Code, Time and Attendance, and other policies).</p> <p>HIPAA SECURITY COMPLIANCE:</p> <p>Security Access: High "Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the MercyOne Medical Center Security Policies as it applies to their job role."</p> <p>MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:</p> <p>High school degree or GED.</p> <p>At least one year of previous experience within security services, public safety, law enforcement or military service preferred.</p> <p>Ability to read, write and speak English.</p> <p>Possess an ability to function well during emergency situations.</p> <p>Possess the ability to maintain diplomacy, courtesy, and cooperation despite the stresses of a patient care environment.</p> <p>Valid Driver's License required, must meet MercyOne's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.</p> <p>Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population serve within three (3) months of hire.</p> <p>Certified in Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training within six (6) months of</p> <p>Basic computer skills, Microsoft products</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>Identifies, reports and documents safety hazards, and handles such irregularities as assigned by Supervisor in a manner prescribed by hospital and department policy.</p> <p>Initiates investigations into incidents or activities of criminal nature and submits appropriate information to law enforcement agencies as directed.</p> <p>Assumes responsibility for proper inventory, pickup, transport, and storage of patient valuables and after hour patient deposits.</p> <p>Maintains storage and records of lost, found, and stolen property of visitors, patient, and employees.</p> <p>Demonstrates an ability to effectively and positively manage potentially aggressive, loud, disorderly, or violent patients or visitors on a consistent basis and summons police to assist if necessary.</p> <p>Assists in situations or physical altercations that may require physically escorting individuals off campus or restraining individuals until additional support / law enforcement arrives. Demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively with Newton Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff, EMS personnel, and nursing staff and providers.</p> <p>Files written report after each shift, listing all potential Environment of Care issues. Inputs data as required for reporting, recording and record keeping purposes.</p> <p>Investigates and documents detailed descriptions of all incidents that are out of the ordinary.</p> <p>Provides accurate directions, information and, if necessary, escort to the public.</p> <p>Provides traffic control, as needed, including during helipad use.</p> <p>Provides employee or visitor assistance, such as vehicle starting and safety escorts.</p> <p>Monitors area to prevent theft from parked automobiles.</p> <p>Assist with loading patients and/or baggage into automobiles.</p> <p>Demonstrates leadership abilities in emergency/crisis situations.</p> <p>Demonstrates excellent communication skills.</p> <p>Demonstrates professional attitude and interest in work by maintaining acceptable work habits, behavior, and a commitment to customer service.</p> <p>Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, visitors, and colleagues.</p> <p>Demonstrates dependability in attendance and punctuality.</p> <p>Maintains an awareness of personal and patient safety when performing all duties.</p> <p>Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager, or department head.</p> <p>TOOLS 1 EQUIPMENT:</p> <p>Standard equipment found in the assigned area including, but not limited to: Computer, Telephone, Security monitors, ambulance radio, weather radio, intercom, copy/fax machine, as well as emergency call systems and alerts such as security, fall, fire, trauma, etc.</p> <p>Our Commitment</p> <p>Rooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
