No Pay Information $55,000 - $63,000 Pay Schedule Annually FLSA Designation Exempt Position Summary</p> <p>The Risk Management Specialist identifies, assesses, and makes recommendations to manage and mitigate UNO's operational risks. Handles day-to-day claims activity for UNO including workers compensation, general liability, automobile liability claims. Analyzes loss data for the purpose of identifying opportunities for improvement and prepares reports for management.</p> <p>Job Duties</p> <p>Responsibility Area: Claims Administration Duties:</p> <p>Reviews financial data and other information related to business operations.</p> <p>Gathers and compiles data related to risk from internal and external resources.</p> <p>Identifies potential risks by analyzing data, observing processes, and talking to staff.</p> <p>Drafts and delivers reports and presentations outlining findings, identifying and explaining potential risks, and recommending solutions.</p> <p>If necessary, work with university general counsel to investigate and settle claims through the State Tort Claim process and/or appear before the State Claims Board to represent UNO on these claims.</p> <p>Selects or develops and implements appropriate risk assessment models or methodologies.</p> <p>Develops and implements contingency plans to manage business interruptions, volatile market events, and other emergencies.</p> <p>Ensures and/or facilitates adequate communication concerning key risks.</p> <p>Drafts and/or evaluates risk disclosures and similar documentation.</p> <p>Field general insurance inquiries and questions.</p> <p>Create certificates of insurance upon request; processes student travel insurance requests and send invoices each month.</p> <p>Point of contact for internal and external customers regarding insurance claims with the University.</p> <p>Request checks from insurance trust via Central Administration.</p> <p>Property and liability claim processor for UNO and collection of relevant data regarding the claim, invoices, photos, incident reports, etc.</p> <p>Process insurance claims and insurance payments.</p> <p>Collect data to determine distribution of department insurance costs.</p> <p>Point of contact for miscellaneous claims through the State of Nebraska Board (tort claims, reimbursement over 60 days, etc.)</p> <p>Percentage Of Time 60 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Other Duties as Assigned Duties:</p> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Percentage Of Time 10 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Worker's Compesnation Duties:</p> <p>Worker's Compensation Case Coordination.</p> <p>Responsible for analyzing and processing all aspects of Workers' Compensation case coordination and management for UNO.</p> <p>Provide accurate and timely consultation to the injured employee, faculty, staff and supervisors regarding worker's compensation.</p> <p>Compile documentation and file initial reports. Partner with Payroll to maintain timely and accurate processing of compensation.</p> <p>Initiate FMLA & benefit premium collections in conjunction with, when applicable.</p> <p>Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with the University retention guidelines.</p> <p>Facilitate employees return to work including working with the ADA coordinator on accommodations, and light duty assignments as may be appropriate.</p> <p>Provide on-going communication and training to faculty, staff and supervisors.</p> <p>Coordinate with Environmental Health & Safety and Supervisors on trends to implement proactive ways to mitigate our workers' compensation risk.</p> <p>Be proactive in implementing process improvements to increase efficiency of the worker's compensation administration at UNO.</p> <p>Assembles and disseminates Workers' Compensation information regarding university policies and procedures to educate faculty, staff and supervisors, about their benefits, leave duration and responsibilities under Workers' Compensation.</p> <p>Regularly review and monitor status reports regarding Worker's Compensation usage.</p> <p>Acts as liaison with external providers, Payroll Department, Environmental Health Services, the third party administrator and other University departments as appropriate.</p> <p>Percentage Of Time 30 Essential Function: Yes</p> <p>Required and Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Required Education</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, Legal, or industry-related area or equivalent experience</p> <p>Required Experience</p> <p>Two years of related experience</p> <p>Required License/Certification Required Additional Qualifications: Preferred Education</p> <p>Tort law education</p> <p>Preferred Experience</p> <p>Tort law experience, insurance claim processing, and/or experience analyzing loss data. Knowledge of Worker's Compensation Act and Nebraska regulations.
