<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Parks and Recreation Line Employees</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>2/10/2026</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Vernon Parks and Recreation</p> <p>Title: Summer Camp Counselor I and II</p> <p>Hourly Rate: $19.4014 $20.4792/hour</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the Camp Director and Camp Assistant Director, the Camp Counselor plans and implements activities for their assigned group of campers, while maintaining accountability for and supervision of the campers assigned to their group at all times.</p> <p>General Duties</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for the daily accountability, supervision, health, and safety of their assigned group of campers </li><li>Resolves conflicts between campers </li><li>Plans and implements daily activities for their group of campers with the support of the Camp Director and Assistant Director </li><li>Responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of the Town of Vernon and Vernon Parks & Recreation Department </li><li>Responsible for completing required program documentation in a timely manner </li><li>Attends staff meetings and program special events as needed </li><li>Maintains facility and equipment in a safe condition and reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor </li><li>Considered a first responder for medical emergency action procedures </li><li>Maintains a positive work attitude </li><li>Performs related work as required </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>16 years of age or older </li><li>Previous work or volunteer experience with children ages 5-13 </li><li>Some knowledge of recreation skills such as arts and crafts, music, physical fitness, nature, team and individual games, etc. </li><li>Willingness to work with children across a variety of ages and understand the different needs across developmental stages </li><li>Possess current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or able to obtain one prior to start date </li><li>Reliable access to transportation </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with participants, and other Town employees </li><li>Ability to organize data and maintain records </li></ul> <p>Physical and mental effort and Work Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Able to lift objects in excess of 20 pounds </li><li>Able to concentrate for extended periods of time with interruptions </li><li>Able to walk, run, swim, sit or stand for prolonged periods </li><li>Able to perform moderately difficult skills such as writing and typing </li><li>Able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as instruction of a skill </li><li>Able to see objects closely and far away, such as waterfront supervision </li><li>Able to hear normal sounds with some background noise such as a call for help </li><li>Able to attend to task for an extended period of time </li><li>Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self or others </li><li>Able to communicate effectively with program participants, parents, and other Town employees </li><li>Potential exposure to blood, body tissues or fluids, seasonal conditions in outside weather, and to loud or unpleasant noises </li></ul>
