<p>Purpose:</p> <p>The Child Care Nurse Consultant (CCNC) is responsible for providing on-site consultation, training, and technical assistance to early childhood care and education providers to enhance the quality of out-of-home childcare. This position will work with existing care organizations, and extensively through Child Care Resource and Referral to provide educational opportunities to increase caretakers' knowledge of best health and safety practices. The CCNC provides services to providers in their homes when necessary.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates activities with other Public Health and Healthy Child Care Iowa professionals. </li><li>Networks with schools, all childcare programs, public health agencies, and other human service agencies who are responsible for health and safety issues. </li><li>Investigates health needs within the service area and provides outreach to childcare providers. </li><li>Informs providers of new information concerning health and safety issues. </li><li>Assesses the health and safety needs of Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs. </li><li>Integrates health and safety into ECE programs. </li><li>Actively participates in safety inspections for providers and schools. </li><li>Follows CCNC Role Guidance for onsite visits, consultation and technical assistance on best practice quality health and safety standards. </li><li>Assists and coordinates care planning for children with special health care needs to help ensure access to early care. </li><li>Works with Iowa Health and Human Services and participating community partners to ensure the completion of project goals. </li><li>Provides nursing case management and care coordination to clients, families, daycare providers, and children's primary care providers. </li><li>Provides follow-up to referring providers regarding referral activities and status. </li><li>Uses a family-centered approach to provide support and assistance to families. </li><li>Builds and maintains relationships with new and established daycare providers. </li><li>Confers with other agencies regarding client needs; exchanges information and attempts to determine a solution for such needs. </li><li>Participates in professional activities and stays current in findings, practices, and recommendations in fields related to programs. </li><li>Conducts and attends periodic training and provides expert technical assistance to team members, colleagues, stakeholders, and community-based organizations. </li><li>Manages time, organization, and scheduling to meet client needs as well as other job duties; Available by phone and email for questions from childcare providers and parents. </li><li>Complies with accepted professional standards and ethical guidelines. </li><li>Maintains accurate and timely documentation. </li><li>Attends required meetings. Assists management in monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. </li><li>Onboards new staff members with support and oversight from the Clinical Manager. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred, or minimum of two-years' experience as a RN in community health, public health, pediatric practice, or other pediatric health setting </li><li>Current and valid Iowa RN license </li><li>Successful completion of Iowa Training Project for Child Care Nurse Consultants </li><li>Completion of in-service requirements for childcare providers </li><li>Experience working with diverse communities preferred </li><li>Ability to effectively teach, present and communicate both verbally and in writing, in English </li><li>Strong relationship development skills </li><li>Ability to accept and work with diverse populations, culturally, economically and educationally </li><li>Aptitude for technical writing </li><li>Ability to identify family strengths and needs for family-centered support </li><li>Knowledge of community resources </li><li>Analytical skills to interpret information </li><li>Strong keyboarding and computer skills with the ability to learn work-related software; knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook; knowledge of database use and management </li><li>Ability to exercise effective independent judgment and problem-solving </li><li>Mandatory Reporter of Child and Dependent Adult abuse training certification (within 30 days of hire) </li><li>Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification (within 90 days of hire) </li><li>Must have valid driver's license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation if driving is required </li><li>Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, 2-step TB test and background check </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>Physical requirements: Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. </li><li>Physical activities: Climbing, Kneeling, Reaching, Talking, Hearing, Repetitive motions, Crouching, Standing, Stooping, Walking, Lifting, Fingering (picking, pinching, typing, etc.), Grasping (applying pressure with fingers and palm), Visual acuity (field of vision for analyzing data, viewing computer, using measurement devices, operating machines, determining accuracy or neatness, and/or making general observations) </li><li>Environment: Extreme temperatures, Hazards (chemicals, infectious diseases), Atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases) </li><li>Time: Ability to be flexible with a varying schedule and programmatic requirements </li><li>Travel: Required between locations </li></ul> <p>These characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
