<p>POSITION TITLE: Hiring Pool - ASL Language Lab</p> <p>COMPENSATION RANGE: 20.00 - 28.00 per hour</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Faculty</p> <p>Department: ASLIS</p> <p>TARGET HIRE DATE: 8/1/2025</p> <p>BENEFITS: UNC's Career Hub</p> <p>This is an open pool posting and applicants will be contacted only if a suitable position becomes available. Pool may be used to fill vacancies for the Fall 2025 - Summer 2026.</p> <p>This pool expires 05/31/2026. Applicants wishing to remain in this pool past 05/31/2026, must reapply at that time.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The?ASL?Language Lab Assistant will provide?ASL instructional support to?UNC?students enrolled in?ASL?I-VI campus-based and online coursework. The?ASL?Language Lab Assistant will facilitate individual and small group interactions to supplement and strengthen the language units taught in the courses.</p> <p>This is a semester-long, part-time assignment that has the potential for renewal each semester, including fall, spring, and summer semesters.</p> <p>Job Duties:</p> <p>The?ASL?Language Lab Assistant must be a native/near-native?ASL?user who is a member of the Deaf Community, with the skills to accurately model?ASL, identify the student's language challenges, and implement successful language learning interventions. In addition, the?ASL?Language Lab Assistant needs outstanding soft skills to meet a variety of students where they are emotionally and academically across three years of?ASL?coursework at?UNC.</p> <p>The?ASL?Language Lab Assistant will work independently and therefore will need to exercise critical thinking and judgment in all their interactions. As a member of the Department, the?ASL?Language Lab Assistant will need to be familiar with federal laws (e.g.,?FERPA) and?UNC?policies (e.g., technology users' policy), as well as some of the external regulatory bodies that influence the?ASLIS?philosophy and course design (e.g., American Council on Teaching Foreign Language, Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education).</p> <p>Finally, the?ASL?Language Lab Assistant will work with technology in the lab and at a distance and need familiarity with these media.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Native/near-native?ASL?proficiency </li><li>Membership in the Deaf Community </li><li>Exemplary people skills </li><li>Competence with technologies, in the lab and delivered to distance students </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience teaching?ASL </li><li>Experience mentoring/tutoring students who are learning?ASL </li></ul> <p>Contact Information:</p> <p>Barbara Garrett - Barbara.garrett@unco.edu; 970-351-1117</p> <p>Sherry Schriver - sherry.schriver@unco.edu; 970-351-1060</p> <p>Benefits:</p> <p>Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans for all full-time positions.
