Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.</p> <p>Non-Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.</p> <p>Perks and Benefits</p> <ul> <li>Free city-paid employee health coverage, additional for spouse or family </li><li>3 weeks Paid Time Off (sick & vacation) </li><li>13 paid holidays </li><li>Pension plan & optional Deferred Compensation </li><li>City-paid life insurance </li><li>Optional Vision, Dental, and Disability Insurance </li><li>Tuition reimbursement </li><li>On-site Gym facility </li><li>And much more! </li></ul> <p>Duties/Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Service City's Solid Waste vehicles and equipment, including, brakes, tires, engine work, etc. </li><li>Repair and/or replace defective parts. </li><li>Install special functional and structural parts in equipment and vehicles. </li><li>Mount, balance, repair and replace vehicle tires. </li><li>Repair electrical equipment. </li><li>Responsible for performing preventative maintenance tasks on all City Solid Waste vehicles and equipment. </li><li>Clean work area, machines, tools and equipment. </li><li>Routine service/maintenance of Solid Waste compactors. </li><li>Must drive motor vehicles. </li><li>Must participate in on-call duty. </li><li>May be required to drive a motor vehicle to accomplish assign task. </li><li>This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>When assigned to Fleet Maintenance:</p> <ul> <li>Service City's fleet vehicles and equipment, including, brakes, tires, engine work, etc. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment required for assigned task </li><li>Knowledgeable in the occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) assigned. </li><li>Knowledgeable in the City and State rules, regulations and protocols. </li><li>Knowledgeable in general housekeeping practices. </li><li>Skilled in the efficient and safe operation of trade specific tools and equipment. </li><li>Skilled in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trade(s). </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. </li><li>Ability to operate vehicles and necessary equipment including but not limited to hand tools. </li><li>Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists. </li><li>Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/ or in response to emergencies. </li><li>Ability to receive and understand oral and written directions. </li><li>Ability to recognize and address common safety issues in the field </li><li>Ability to detect improper functioning mechanical systems. </li><li>Ability to review and organize work for efficient results and accuracy. </li><li>Ability to operate manual and power hand tools, and other heavy equipment and machinery. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or GED. </li><li>One year of experience in fleet maintenance or vehicle related work. </li><li>Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. </li><li>Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Possess four ASE's </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands and Working Conditions</p> <p>This work typically requires the following physical activities to be performed.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Balancing - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.</p> </li></ul> <p>Work performed is primarily:</p> <ul> <li>Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <ul> <li>Tasks are performed outside, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain, and risk of exposure to toxic agents/chemicals, pathogens, and smoke. </li><li>Contact with internal and external customers, vendors and the general public </li><li>Ability to perform strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions. </li><li>May be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of vibration. </li><li>Must have the ability to work after hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and during emergencies. </li><li>May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including on call hours </li></ul> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
