<p>The Class 3 Advanced School Resource Officer is a sworn law enforcement officer, with arrest powers, who works within Beaufort County School District's elementary schools. In this position, the Class 3 Advanced School Resource Officer will receive specialized training on how to work with youth. This position's work schedule will follow the same schedule as the administrative/teaching staff of the Beaufort County School District.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>South Carolina Code 23-23-60 (B) sets the minimum standards for law enforcement certification in South Carolina; Applicants must meet the following qualifications for employment:</p> <ul> <li>US Citizen </li><li>21 years of age minimum </li><li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Valid S.C. driver's license (upon hiring) </li><li>Registered S.C. voter (upon hiring) </li><li>Resident of Beaufort County (upon hiring) </li><li>Fluent in the oral and written communication of the English language Clean criminal record: No felony, serious misdemeanor or convictions of any crime of moral turpitude Good credit history </li><li>Good driving record: no DUI or DUS convictions in the past five years Candidates who have been in the military must have received an Honorable Discharge </li><li>Must successfully complete the Beaufort County' Sheriff's Office physical agility course </li><li>Must be able to complete training program to receive Advanced Class 3 certification, as well as training through the National Association of School Resource Officers </li></ul> <p>All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.</p>
