Click here for a complete list of benefits: https://csu.edu/humanresources/benefits.htm</p> <p>Is Tenured/ Tenure Track Yes Full-time/ Part-time Full-time Job Description Summary</p> <p>The Department of Computing, Information and Mathematical Sciences, and Technology (CIMST) at Chicago State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science beginning Fall 2026.</p> <p>CIMST is a vibrant and diverse academic unit that emphasizes the intersections of people, computing, information, and technology. The department offers Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) degrees in Computer Science. Our faculty and students represent a wide range of backgrounds, contributing to a dynamic and inclusive academic community.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Faculty members are expected to contribute to teaching, research, and service, as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.</p> <ul> <li>Teaching: Teach up to 24 credit-unit equivalents per year; develop syllabi, instructional materials, and innovative course content; advise students; supervise graduate theses and research projects; engage in professional development and participate in assessment activities tied to accreditation and program evaluation. </li><li>Research: Conduct research in computer science or related fields, publish in peer-reviewed venues, seek external funding, and present work at academic and professional conferences. </li><li>Service: Participate actively in departmental, college, university, professional, and community committees and initiatives, assuming leadership roles as appropriate over time. </li></ul> <p>Appointment Details</p> <ul> <li>Rank: Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) </li><li>Term: Full-time, 9-month appointment </li><li>Start Date: Fall 2026 </li></ul> <p>All faculty positions are governed by the university's collective bargaining agreement, which ensures clear guidelines for hiring, evaluation, promotion, tenure, and professional responsibilities.</p> <p>The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching and related academic activities throughout the academic year. Faculty are also expected to uphold the University's commitment to academic excellence by fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment that supports, values, and challenges students from diverse ethnic, religious, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds.</p> <p>Required Education</p> <ul> <li>Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution. </li><li>Evidence of or potential for scholarly research and publications in machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, or a related discipline. </li><li>Demonstrate excellence in teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students and mentoring graduate research. </li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Commitment to supporting diverse student populations and fostering an inclusive learning environment. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Ability and commitment to actively contribute to departmental, college, and university initiatives through high-quality teaching, scholarly research, and professional service.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Teaching and research experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Computer Networks. </li><li>Evidence of successful teaching experience in higher education. </li><li>Demonstrated ability or interest in mentoring students in research or academic success. </li><li>Record of or potential for grant writing and external funding. </li><li>Interest in contributing to departmental service, curriculum development, and program assessment. </li><li>Experience working at a Predominantly Black Institution (PBI), HBCU, or other minority-serving institution is highly desirable. </li><li>Prior experience delivering undergraduate or graduate courses online or in hybrid formats. </li><li>amiliarity with learning management systems (LMS) such as Brightspace. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <p>Doctoral and master's transcripts are required.</p>
