<p>This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee. This position performs both janitorial and custodial services at the VA Medical Center located in Indianapolis, IN.</p> <p>Major Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assignment the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led. </li><li>Works along with other workers and sets the pace of work. </li><li>Demonstrates proper work methods. </li><li>Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work assignment. </li><li>Maintains a current knowledge, answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives. </li><li>Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines are being met. </li><li>Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. </li><li>Reports to supervisors on status of progress of work and causes of work delays. </li><li>Answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems. </li></ul> <p>Technical Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, window and all washing and other related cleaning duties. </li><li>Selecting and preparing the proper cleaning solutions for the various environmental surfaces. </li><li>Operating all types of cord/line and battery powered cleaning equipment, self propelled scrubbing machines, burnishers, stripping equipment, polishers, vacuums, wet vacuum and spill and "flood" pick up equipment and other electrical equipment. </li><li>Handling soiled linen. </li><li>Collecting and disposing of infectious red-bag wasted, trash and garbage. </li><li>Replenishing soap, towel, tissue dispensers and deodorizing containers. </li><li>Hanging curtains or draperies, terminal cleaning of bed units. </li><li>Making beds, sanitizing furniture and fixtures, and performing other related duties as assigned to keep work areas clean, orderly and attractive. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00AM-3:30PM WEEKENDS TO BE DETERMINED BY SUPERVISOR.
