Designs and performs a combination of clinical and laboratory experiments, including live imaging of patients, as well as laboratory animals. Analyzes and presents the outcomes. Takes a primary role in manuscript preparation.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>Conducts collaborative and independent research requiring animal surgery, image analysis, molecular biology, and histology. Conducts human subjects research procedures involving direct contact with patients, including enrollment of participants, chart review and documentation, ophthalmic image acquisition and analysis, and maintenance of records. Completes appropriate training for each research project. Adheres to all institutional policies and procedures, attends annual training sessions, and additional trainings if needed. Maintains accurate records of research findings and results in a detailed up-to-date laboratory notebook. Participates in weekly laboratory meetings and presents findings (schedule determined by Principal Investigator). Meets regularly with mentor to review project progress and milestones. Prepares and submits protocols to oversight committees (e.g. IACUC, IRB, IBC) as needed. Completes animal training as required and stays up to date with all new animal protocols and procedures. Performs animal surgery and imaging on live animals (ie., slit lamp, HRT, optical coherence tomography (OCT). Oversees the management of the mouse colony and maintains detailed records. Maintains multiple laboratory inventories: purchasing, chemical, animal, drug and biological materials. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, will oversee the orientation and training of new/junior research assistant/summer students who join the Lee lab. Attends relevant seminars and symposiums. Undertakes relevant coursework if required by mentor. Take administrative (inventory, purchasing, etc.) responsibilities in the lab when necessary Write a final report or submit a manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal describing the project and results.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Doctoral degree (MD or PhD)</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <p>Lab and clinical settings.</p> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Position requires good manual dexterity, with ability to operate imaging equipment and visualize and outline cellular structures using imaging software.</p> <p>HIPAA Privacy Training and Sanctions</p> <p>All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plan's policies and procedures that impact on their job duties.
