<p>Academic Tutoring at UVU is seeking student tutors who will work one-on-one and with groups to help students navigate the challenges of their assigned courses and content material.</p> <p>Academic Tutoring embraces the power of students helping students and supports all individuals-regardless of identity, culture, point of view, or background-as they navigate the challenges associated with their educational goals. With a focus on gateway major courses, certified peer tutors work alongside each student to foster serious academic exploration and inspire lifelong learning.</p> <ul> <li>Tutor students (individually and in groups) by appointment and/or drop-in, in assigned courses and content material. </li><li>On top of face-to-face tutoring, tutors may be assigned to the online tutoring lab or to other labs across campus. </li><li>Participate in required tutor training and certification. </li><li>Tutors are also expected to contribute to certain Academic Tutoring initiatives, like conducting class visits, creating and updating handouts, designing workshops, and contributing to end-of-the-year events. </li><li>Must be a current UVU student. </li><li>Minimum 3.0 GPA. </li><li>Grade B or better in PSY 2710. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Grade A in PSY 2710 </li></ul> <p>Effective tutors are:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledgeable about a wide range of Psychology. </li><li>Well-versed in study skills and strategies. </li><li>Creative problem solvers who can find new approaches to challenges. </li><li>Excellent communicators who can adapt their teaching to a variety of needs and backgrounds. </li><li>Reliable, has strong time and task-management skills. </li><li>Familiar with available student resources on campus. </li></ul> <p>Effective tutors can:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with students to enhance their content knowledge. </li><li>Communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly manner. </li><li>Read, write, and otherwise convey ideas in English. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality. </li><li>Cultivate professional relationships with staff, faculty, and students. </li><li>Contribute to the smooth operation of the tutoring labs. </li><li>Participate in ongoing trainings. </li></ul>
