<p>Job Description and Duties</p> <p>Per CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies.</p> <p>Under direction of the Agriculture Program Supervisor II (APS II), the Fruit and Vegetable Quality Control Inspector (FVQC Inspector) inspects shell eggs and egg products at facilities for compliance with the California Code of Regulations (CCR's) and the Food and Agricultural Code (FAC) regarding shell egg food safety, egg handler and producer registration, and the marketing and payment of assessments for shell eggs and egg products.</p> <ul> <li>As a program specialist, travel by car daily to independently perform the more challenging monthly state shell egg and egg product inspections at production/processing, wholesale and retail facilities to ensure compliance with CCR's and FAC and relay any questions or concerns to APS II </li><li>Travel by car daily to perform quarterly Shell Egg Surveillance (SES) inspections under the authority of the Egg Productions Inspection Act, and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and provide inspection reports and take corrective action when necessary </li><li>Compile and report breakdown of historical and current shipping data of out of state eggs into California to APS II to track flock size trends and monitor market share </li><li>Accurately prepare and complete, non-compliance and hold-off sale notices to any facility that has failed egg product, and work with facility to determine final disposition of eggs </li><li>Travel and attend Program and Branch meetings </li><li>Travel to attend State shell egg enforcement and Federal shell egg surveillance workshops and training classes </li><li>Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Candidates may perform these essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.</p> <p>You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>The duties of this position are conducted in-doors and out-doors at egg production and distribution facilities. The Fruit and Vegetable Quality Control has a home office and regular telework is part of the incumbent's ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFAs Telework Policy. Any employee who is teleworking must adhere to all telework policies and procedures.</p> <p>The incumbent must follow CDFA, Division, and Branch employee health and safety policies.</p> <p>The FVQC Inspector travels in-state often to those establishments throughout an assigned geographical area to conduct inspections, and to conduct reviews on behalf of USDA and Food and Drug Administration. Egg production and distribution facilities usually have wet, slippery floors, are noisy, and have many potential hazards such as moving equipment, heavy overhead structures, and sharp knives. Fruit and Vegetable Quality Control Inspector duties also necessitate working in cold dry coolers, freezers, warm humid processing areas, and seasonal environmental conditions while inspecting buildings and surrounding property. MPES, through the Meat and Poultry Program licenses, registers, and inspects meat processing establishments and meat and poultry slaughterhouses exempt from federal inspection, providing oversight to ensure that only wholesome, unadulterated, and properly labeled meat and poultry products are provided to the public and owners of the livestock and poultry. The Rendering Program licenses, registers and inspects renderers, collection centers, transporters of inedible kitchen grease and inedible materials, and dead animal haulers. MPES, through the Egg Safety and Quality Management (ESQM) Program registers and inspects eggs at the production, wholesale, and retail levels to make sure eggs sold in California are wholesome, properly labeled, refrigerated, and of established quality.</p> <p>Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL).
