<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The ED techs are licensed paramedics who are expert critical thinkers who are familiar with emergency medicine. They can be utilized in the waiting room to collect vital signs and monitor patients for a change in condition. They will also be able to assist the RNs with critical patients and also help with flow by transporting patients out of the emergency department.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) may render basic first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation services, and:</p> <p>1.Obtain and document vital signs and report changes in patient condition to the emergency department nurse, or triage nurse</p> <p>2.Obtain orthostatic vital signs</p> <p>3.Patient transport depending on patient condition.</p> <p>4.Insert peripheral IV, may collect blood sample with IV insertion</p> <p>5.Specimen collection- including but not limited to urine, sputum and nasopharyngeal swabs</p> <p>6.IV catheter removal</p> <p>7.Perform respiratory assistance utilizing oral and nasal airways, ventilation devices, and/or oxygen under direct observation of the RN</p> <p>8.Apply suctioning techniques to clear airways under direct observation of the RN</p> <p>9.Apply dressings and bandages.</p> <p>10.Apply prefabricated splints and immobilization devices.</p> <p>11.Apply spinal immobilization devices.</p> <p>12.Utilize electrocardiograph monitors, accurately monitor, analyze and interpret rhythm/arrhythmias and provide appropriate documentation and communication related to interpretation</p> <p>13.Perform "finger stick" blood glucose testing procedures.</p> <p>14.Utilize pulse oximetry monitors, cardiac monitor, and set up ETCO2</p> <p>15.Prepare the Level 1 infuser</p> <p>16.Insert OG/NG and Foley cath in emergent situations under direct observation of the RN</p> <p>17.Other duties as assigned</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities</p> <p>Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)</p> <p>The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.</p> <p>Competency Statement</p> <p>Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.</p> <p>Common Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>(Essential duties common to all positions)</p> <ol> <li> <p>Maintain and document all applicable required education.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations.</p> </li><li> <p>Comply with the company's attendance policy.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform work in a cost effective manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization.</p> </li><li> <p>Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform related duties as assigned.</p> </li></ol> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: 3 years recent field experience </li></ul> <p>Credentials</p> <ul> <li>Paramedic (Required) </li><li>Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required) </li><li>Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required) </li><li>Pediatric Adv Life Support (Required) </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Evenings</p> <p>Status: 72 hrs per pay</p> <p>Location: Memorial Hospital</p> <p>Location of Job: US:WV:Charleston</p> <p>Talent Acquisition Specialist: Anita J.
