<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Careers at SCDES: Where Passion Meets Preservation</p> <p>Do you love South Carolina and protecting the environment?</p> <p>Come join our team at SCDES, put your passion to work with us!</p> <p>We are dedicated to protecting the state of South Carolina and we would love to have you as a member of our team!</p> <p>Science | Service | Sustainability</p> <p>Purpose:</p> <p>Performs duties in specialized environmental management to detect, evaluate, and control environmental quality through the review of compliance monitoring reports and compliance certifications.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Tracks, reviews, and evaluates standard and complex compliance monitoring reports from air pollution sources to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and permit conditions. </li><li>Review Title V annual compliance certifications. </li><li>Coordinate and communicate with appropriate staff including permitting, enforcement, regional, etc., during the process of report review and TVACC review. Ensure that the expertise of other staff is utilized, as needed, to aid in compliance determinations. </li><li>In a timely manner, install air permit reporting requirements into ePermitting schedules, so that reports can be submitted, monitored, and tracked effectively. </li><li>Work with traditional sources to assure necessary data in the appropriate format is received and refer non-compliance situations to the Enforcement Section for further action. </li><li>Perform related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>An associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and three years of environmental health or related experience</p> <p>A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field</p> <p>Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.</p> <p>Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application are encouraged to upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application. If selected for an interview, a copy of the college transcript will be required via email or at the time of the interview. Please note that some departments within the agency may require an official, certified copy of the transcript prior to hiring or within a specific timeframe required by that area, after hiring. Failure to produce an official, certified transcript may result in not being hired or termination.</p> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must have valid state driver's license, and ability to operate personal and state-owned vehicles. </li><li>Knowledge of Federal and State environmental laws, rules, and regulations. </li><li>Knowledge of the enforcement, permitting, compliance monitoring, and emissions inventory procedures. </li><li>Knowledge of methods of compliance monitoring, database entry, and management procedures, and enforcement referral procedures. </li><li>Ability to differentiate between deviations that can be resolved through compliance assistance or through enforcement. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff, management, the public, and government officials. </li><li>Ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports. </li><li>A working knowledge of database software is required. </li><li>Ability to work well with internal and external customers. </li><li>Ability to detect deviations and review technical data in reports is a must. </li><li>May require: </li><li>Daily travel throughout the state. </li><li>Occasional overnight travel. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>A master's degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field.
