Applicants are advised to apply promptly.</p> <p>Several vacancies exist in the Department of Recreation and Parks for Recreation Activity Center (RAC) Leaders.</p> <p>Pay Schedule I, Grade 20, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week</p> <p>Locations</p> <p>Hillendale Recreation Activity Center (RAC)</p> <p>1111 Halstead Road</p> <p>Baltimore, Maryland 21234</p> <p>Winfield Recreation Activity Center (RAC)</p> <p>8304 Carlson Lane</p> <p>Baltimore, Maryland 21244</p> <p>Definition of Responsibility</p> <p>Supervising, coordinating, organizing, and overseeing various recreational and park programs while ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of community relations and facilities.</p> <p>A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.</p> <p>Current and future vacancies occurring within this class may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.</p> <p>All interestedtransferandpromotionalcandidates must apply at this time.</p> <p>List all promotions and changes in job duties due to reclassification as separate work experience on your application. Proof of professional licenses, certifications, and/or educationmustbe submitted with each application.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <p>Job Purpose</p> <p>Under close supervision, leads a wide variety of recreation activities and special events within a recreation activity center.</p> <p>Essential Job Duties</p> <ul> <li>Assists in the coordination, planning, promoting, scheduling, and evaluating of a variety of recreation activities and special events in a heavily programmed recreation activity center. </li><li>Plans and leads a diversified program of indoor and outdoor activities in the following categories: cultural arts, fitness, hobbies, performing arts, sports, and socialization. </li><li>Meets with participants of recreation activity center programs to determine leisure activity needs. </li><li>Participates in recreation activity center activities. </li><li>Chaperones field trips taken by recreation activity center participants. </li><li>Interacts with recreation activity center program participants. </li><li>Assists children with completing homework. </li><li>Inspects facilities to make certain that structures, areas, and equipment are safe, adequate, and functioning properly. </li><li>Recruits, trains, and coordinates the work of occasional staff and volunteers. </li><li>Provides site supervision and oversees daily operations in the absence of a RAC Coordinator. </li><li>Provides basic first aid when necessary and responds to emergencies according to protocol. </li><li>Communicates effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and other staff members. </li><li>Maintains accurate records of attendance, incidents, and food service logs. </li><li>Assists in the setup, operation, and clean-up of recreation programs and events. </li></ul> <p>Examples of Other Duties</p> <p>Performs other related duties as required.</p> <p>(NOTE: The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class. Each position may not be required to perform all of the essential job functions listed.)</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <p>Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.</p> <p>Plus</p> <p>One year of successful experience as a recreation leader, recreation specialist, teacher assistant, social worker or counselor in a closely related field, or one year of experience in education as a teacher.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Completion of at least 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university</p> <p>Possession of valid CPR and first aid certifications</p> <p>Possession of a valid ServSafe Food Handler certification</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the needs, capabilities, and interests of diverse youth groups and individuals. </li><li>Basic knowledge of the organization of clubs, entertainment, leagues, and tournaments. </li><li>Knowledge of CPR and first aid. </li><li>Skill in completing forms and reports. </li><li>Good interpersonal skills. </li><li>Skill in developing recreation activities. </li><li>Ability to organize and schedule a variety of recreation programs directed towards at-risk youth. </li><li>Ability to implement activities conducted at a recreation activity center. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance)</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of County and departmental policies, procedures, regulations, and rules. </li><li>Knowledge of departmental recreation and parks programs, services, and operations. </li><li>Knowledge of the objectives and theory of neighborhood recreation programs. </li><li>Basic knowledge of community, human, and social services assistance programs. </li><li>Knowledge of CPR and first aid. </li><li>Skill in conducting recreation and education activities. </li><li>Skill in handling hostile individuals and individuals experiencing a crisis. </li><li>Skill in administering CPR and first aid. </li><li>Ability to handle hostile individuals and crises. </li><li>Ability to lead and supervise volunteers. </li><li>Ability to administer CPR and first aid. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and Certificates</p> <p>Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.</p> <p>Must earn and maintain valid CPR and first aid certifications within 10 months of appointment.</p> <p>Must earn and maintain a valid ServSafe Food Handler certification within 10 months of appointment.</p> <p>Proof ofLicenses, Certifications and Education</p> <p>Applicants are required to submit proof of professional licenses, certifications, and education to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Applicants are advised to statethe dates, duties, and responsibilities of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.</p> <p>Conditions of Employment</p> <p>Employees in this classification may be assigned to work evenings, holidays, nights, and weekends as needed.</p> <p>Employees in this classification must maintain valid CPR and first aid certifications throughout employment.</p> <p>Employees in this classification who do not maintain valid CPR and first aid certifications are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.</p> <p>Employees in this classification must obtain and maintain a valid ServSafe Food Handler certification within 10 months of appointment.</p> <p>Employees in this classification who do not obtain a valid ServSafe Food Handler certification within 10 months of appointment are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination</p> <p>Physical and Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The work of this classification entails walking over rough and uneven surfaces in the inspection of facilities and grounds, and infrequent exposure to adverse weather while conducting outdoor public programs and events.</p> <p>Some lifting and carrying are required in preparing for programs and events.</p> <p>Administering CPR and first aid, handling and serving food to participants of recreation activity center programs.</p> <p>Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation</p> <p>Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.</p>
