<p>Position Title:</p> <p>Lecturer in Dance</p> <p>Appointment Type:</p> <p>Faculty</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a Dance Lecturer term position who are able to teach all levels of ballet and contemporary modern dance practices, dance composition and dance history, as well as other areas of specialty such as jazz, hip hop or musical theater and dance production.</p> <p>The successful candidate is responsible for advising a student dance company that has weekly meetings and classes with guest teachers and performances throughout the year. As the faculty advisor, responsibilities include serving as the Artistic Director of Barjche', the main stage production at Fisher Theatre, which features both public performances and student matinees for public education. Additionally, the role involves maintaining an active artist practice and contributing to creating original choreography for students.</p> <p>The candidate has responsibilities for mentoring the student choreographers, with the ability to provide feedback to student choreography and aid in bringing the work to the stage. The candidate works closely with the theatre production staff to schedule technical needs for the concert and other productions and arranges a guest choreographer for a residency and coordinates the annual Scholarship Concert dance event in the fall. The successful candidate acts as the faculty representative for the American College Dance Association (ACDA) participating, coordinating, and accompanying students to regional and national conferences. Additionally, this candidate will share in committee responsibilities in the Department of Kinesiology along with working with the other dance faculty in developing and serving the Iowa State University Dance Program.</p> <p>The initial appointment is for the Fall semester 2025 (8/16 - 12/31/2025). Appointment renewal is possible and will be determined by performance and department needs.</p> <p>Required Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Undergraduate degree with teaching, choreographic, and artistic direction experience. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>M.F.A. in Dance or Ph.D. in Dance or a related field</p> </li><li> <p>Teaching experience in all levels of ballet and contemporary modern dance</p> </li><li> <p>At least 2 years of higher education teaching experience, with professional and dance production experience in the field</p> </li></ul> <p>Department/Program & College Description:</p> <p>The Department of Kinesiology is one of five academic units in the College of Health and Human Sciences and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in kinesiology. The department has approximately 1100 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, making it one of the largest academic departments at Iowa State. Through our teaching, research, service, and outreach efforts, the Department of Kinesiology strives to promote health and wellbeing by creating and disseminating knowledge about physical activity and healthy living to improve the lives of citizens of Iowa, the United States, and the world.
