<p>The Literacy Lead Teacher teaches in the literacy content area for 50% of their working time and leads or assists instructional staff in designing high-quality instructional programs.</p> <p>Position contingent on grant funding</p> <p>SALARY</p> <p>Commensurate with certification and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Schedule for Teachers. Includes benefits.</p> <p>HOURS</p> <p>10 months, 190 days</p> <p>Contract Unit: This position is part of the Teacher's (Unit I) bargaining unit.</p> <p>FLSA: Exempt</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate in Early Childhood, Elementary 1-6 or Special Education with Reading Specialist.</p> <p>National Board Certification, Master's in Reading, or Reading Specialist certificate is preferred. Applicants working on National Board Certification or in a Master's program for Reading may also qualify.</p> <p>ESOL certification, National Board Certification in ESOL or demonstrated experience in ESOL instruction preferred.</p> <p>Knowledge of the principles and practices of pedagogy related to the science of reading. Familiarity with current research-based instructional practices in reading/language arts.</p> <p>Ability to administer and utilize reading assessments for the diagnostic-prescriptive teaching of reading.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES & CORE COMPETENCIES</p> <p>Professional Development & Coaching</p> <ul> <li>Partner with school leadership to develop and implement a professional development (PD) cycle tailored to school and district needs that supports school improvement efforts. </li><li>Lead professional learning focusing on evidence-based coaching practices. </li><li>Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to teachers through structured learning opportunities and modeling best practices. </li><li>Ensure teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively implement WCPS initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Instructional Support & Teaching</p> <ul> <li>Teach or co-teach for 50% of the school day, demonstrating exemplary instructional practices aligned with the WCPS Curriculum and Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS). </li><li>Guide in early identification and intervention using assessment systems and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. </li><li>Assist in using data to offer differentiated support and recommend instructional improvements to meet the needs of all learners. </li><li>Guide teachers in using student performance data to adjust instruction and improve learning outcomes. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration & School Improvement</p> <ul> <li>Partner with school leadership to identify areas of instructional need and design professional learning opportunities to address them. </li><li>Participate in school-based instructional leadership teams, contributing expertise and insights to improve teaching and learning. </li><li>Support a culture of continuous learning by fostering collaboration and shared leadership among teacher leaders. </li></ul> <p>Other Duties as Assigned</p>
