<p>Facilities Maintenance Mechanic Apprenticeship program is a 2-year program that incorporates at minimum 288 hours of classroom instruction and 4000 hours of on-the-job training, under the guidance of a mentor. Role will perform work involving two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep mechanical equipment, building systems, grounds and the structure of the establishment in good repair.</p> <ul> <li>Classes would start in August 2026. </li></ul> <p>Monday - Friday 6:30AM to 2:30PM</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices </li><li>Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate </li><li>Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions </li><li>Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary </li><li>Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment </li><li>Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists </li><li>Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery </li><li>Help to keep stock items in inventory. </li><li>Maintain all records of repairs made to equipment. </li><li>Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges </li><li>Acquire and maintain certification to operate forklifts and aerial lifts. </li><li>Provide the customer with the best value including Cost, Quality, and Delivery. </li><li>Participate in improving our product, processes, equipment and methods. </li><li>Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment </li><li>Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times. </li><li>Make out purchase requisitions for repair parts and replacement stock items. </li><li>Performs all reasonably related duties as assigned. </li><li>Reasonable accommodation will be made at the beginning of the apprenticeship to provide tools for the employee to use/borrow during their on-the-job training. </li><li>However, the employee will be required to purchase and maintain their own tools required of this position by then end of the program. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED preferred </li><li>Strong attention to detail </li><li>Mechanically inclined </li><li>Ability to attend classes offsite </li><li>Internal candidates eligibility: </li><li>Performance rating of "Meets Requirements" or better </li><li>Has not been suspended within the last 60 days preceding the date of the application or during the recruitment process </li><li>Meet time-in-position requirement. Please look up job description in PolicyTech for specific details on your job title if requirement is unknown. </li><li>More information or further details please review Job Posting Procedure Policy: HR 10 007 Job Posting Procedure v.3 </li></ul> <p>Requirements of the Apprenticeship:</p> <ul> <li>Apprentice must register with the DOL through West Michigan Works! </li><li>Apprentice must register with GRCC or another colleges Apprentice/Work-Study Program </li><li>Apprentices must be enrolled in at least one class a semester to remain active in the apprenticeship. </li><li>Apprentice must complete all required coursework within the 2-Year Maintenance Apprenticeship Program. </li><li>Apprentices must pass each class, with a minimum grade of "C" to stay in the apprenticeship program. a. If a "C" grade is not achieved, the class must be retaken at the cost of the employee </li><li>Apprentices must keep record of all tasks worked to meet the on-the-job training requirements </li><li>All regular conditions of employment, policies and procedures apply to the apprentice. </li><li>Apprentices will work with their supervisor to balance school and on the job time. </li><li>Apprentices will be paid for their time on-the-job at Plascore, in addition to time spent in the classroom (NTE 40 hours/week). A copy of the employees' class schedule and teacher's information will be provided to the Facilities Manager. </li><li>Payment of Classes (in order of disbursement) </li><li>Apprentice shall work with financial aid for any scholarships or tuition credits </li><li>State Funded Grant Dollars will cover $1000/year </li><li>Plascore's Educational Assistance Program will cover up to $5000 per year </li><li>Anything beyond that will be the responsibility of the employee </li><li>As of 2024 rates total cost of all courses are (other fees may apply) </li><li>Kent County residents is $2640 </li><li>Other Counties is $5566 </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must be eligible to work on programs subject to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations). </li></ul>
