Why Join Us | DuPont Careers</p> <p>POWERHOUSE OPERATOR</p> <p>DuPont's Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE is seeking a Powerhouse Operator.</p> <p>The Powerhouse Operator will operate and monitor powerhouse equipment including boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, and cooling towers. The incumbent will also monitor and control steam, condensate, chilled water, compressed air and electrical distribution systems. Monitors weather conditions and operates equipment accordingly. Makes minor repairs and lubricates equipment. Patrols areas to monitor operating systems. Fundamental understanding of Process Safety Management systems and high hazard processes.</p> <p>This position involves 12 hr. rotating shifts, night work and some mandatory overtime including holidays, weekends, and short notice call ins as required</p> <p>DuPont offers an excellent benefits package that includes a generous 401k match, health and dental insurance, 15 days of vacation, a variable bonus plan, and much more!</p> <p>Key essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Starts up, monitors, and stops boilers, air and refrigeration compressors, and pumps, using wiring diagrams/schematics, vendor manuals, hand tools to provide utilities to maintain building conditions and comfortable levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Operates building automation systems to monitor and control powerhouse equipment and systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Makes minor repairs such as tightening packing glands on pumps, boilers, and compressors, to keep equipment operating.</p> </li><li> <p>Test boilers, cooling tower, chilled and domestic water in accordance with oral and/or written instructions, following standard operating/safety procedures and standard operating conditions and written chemical procedures, using test equipment and laboratory glassware, to maintain specified conditions required to prevent rust or corrosion of equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains chemical inventories and adds chemicals for boilers and cooling tower water and chilled water using vendor manuals, hand tools, special tools, to maintain water specifications.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors outside weather conditions to determine equipment needed to be operated to provide services to the building areas.</p> </li><li> <p>Patrols operating areas on a scheduled basis, using system logs, hand tools to ensure all operating systems are working as designed.</p> </li><li> <p>Cleans boiler burners in accordance with oral and/or written instructions from supervisor, following standard operating/safety procedures and standard operating conditions, using vendor manuals, hand tools and sound judgment, to maintain combustion efficiency.</p> </li><li> <p>Locks, tags, clears, and tries equipment such as motors, pumps, and chiller in accordance with oral and/or written instructions, following standard operating/ safety procedures and standard operating conditions, using special tools, safety locks, tags, and chains, to make the equipment inoperable and allow personnel to work on it.</p> </li><li> <p>Lubricates equipment such as motors, fans and pumps in accordance with oral instructions, following standard operating/safety procedures and standard operating conditions, using vendor manuals, hand tools and any special tools such as grease guns while using sound judgment, in order to keep the equipment running and prolong its life.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors and controls plant emissions in accordance with oral and/or written instructions, following standard operating/ safety procedures and standard operating conditions, using vendor manuals to comply with local environmental regulations utilizing opacity meter and visual inspections.</p> </li></ul> <p>The following are required:</p> <ul> <li> <p>High School diploma /GED required; a degree or Certificate from an accredited college or technical school in power plant technology or equivalent is preferred</p> </li><li> <p>A valid driver's license</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to obtain Wilmington Fireman License within the first 12 months of employment</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to: climb stairs, ladders, and columns; stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, utilize visual acuity, reach overhead, hear and respond to alarms and work in confined spaces as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toed shoes, hardhat, Nomex clothing, protective eyewear, face shields, hearing protection, arc protective clothing, and respirator as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of programmable logic controls and other control systems, human machine interface, motor starters/VFDs, Mechanical drive systems, conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated ability to function as part of a team or as an individual</p> </li></ul> <p>Join our Talent Community to stay connected with us!</p> <p>On May 22, 2024, we announced a plan to separate our Electronics and Water businesses in a tax-free manner to its shareholders.
